Book Atomization Mechanism of Wall Bounded Two Phase Flows

Download or read book Atomization Mechanism of Wall Bounded Two Phase Flows written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current understanding of droplet generation processes from liquid films is reviewed. Films are defined as liquids with one free and one wall-bound surface. In many of the systems where films occur, atomization is an undesirable side-effect of the two-phase flow. The motivation for this study, however, is a process where atomization from the film is the goal -- a gas-centered swirl coaxial rocket injector. Because atomization is often unwanted in film configurations, few studies focus on the mechanisms that cause atomization. The large body of literature on the atomization of jets and sheets is, therefore, utilized to develop an understanding of film atomization. Similarities and differences between the geometries are discussed as applicable. Generally, the atomization is considered to involve two steps: the creation of a disturbance on the film surface and the breakdown of this disturbance into droplets. Prompt atomization, where atomization occurs directly at a nozzle exit, is also briefly considered. Several atomization mechanisms are identified and qualitatively described.

Book excerpt: This graduate text provides a unified treatment of the fundamental principles of two-phase flow and shows how to apply the principles to a variety of homogeneous mixture as well as separated liquid-liquid, gas-solid, liquid-solid, and gas-liquid flow problems, which may be steady or transient, laminar or turbulent. Each chapter contains several sample problems, which illustrate the outlined theory and provide approaches to find simplified analytic descriptions of complex two-phase flow phenomena. This well-balanced introductory text will be suitable for advanced seniors and graduate students in mechanical, chemical, biomedical, nuclear, environmental and aerospace engineering, as well as in applied mathematics and the physical sciences. It will be a valuable reference for practicing engineers and scientists. A solutions manual is available to qualified instructors.

Book Multiphase Flow Handbook Second Edition

Download or read book Multiphase Flow Handbook Second Edition written by Efstathios Michaelides and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-10-26 with total page 1559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Multiphase Flow Handbook, Second Edition is a thoroughly updated and reorganized revision of the late Clayton Crowe’s work, and provides a detailed look at the basic concepts and the wide range of applications in this important area of thermal/fluids engineering. Revised by the new editors, Efstathios E. (Stathis) Michaelides and John D. Schwarzkopf, the new Second Edition begins with two chapters covering fundamental concepts and methods that pertain to all the types and applications of multiphase flow. The remaining chapters cover the applications and engineering systems that are relevant to all the types of multiphase flow and heat transfer. The twenty-one chapters and several sections of the book include the basic science as well as the contemporary engineering and technological applications of multiphase flow in a comprehensive way that is easy to follow and be understood. The editors created a common set of nomenclature that is used throughout the book, allowing readers to easily compare fundamental theory with currently developing concepts and applications. With contributed chapters from sixty-two leading experts around the world, the Multiphase Flow Handbook, Second Edition is an essential reference for all researchers, academics and engineers working with complex thermal and fluid systems.

Book The Atomization of Liquid and Two Phase Flows

Download or read book The Atomization of Liquid and Two Phase Flows written by M. S. Volynskii and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of the spraying of a liquid fuel into a supersonic gaseous stream and of the flow of the dispersed liquid is examined. Systems of equations are presented for 2 phase flow at the initial and main portions of the stream. These equations were solved with a computer and the region of vaporization of the fuel into the supersonic jet was determined. Calculations for streams at Mach 2 are in good agreement with expectations. (Author).
