Download or read book Climate Change written by The Royal Society and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate Change: Evidence and Causes is a jointly produced publication of The US National Academy of Sciences and The Royal Society. Written by a UK-US team of leading climate scientists and reviewed by climate scientists and others, the publication is intended as a brief, readable reference document for decision makers, policy makers, educators, and other individuals seeking authoritative information on the some of the questions that continue to be asked. Climate Change makes clear what is well-established and where understanding is still developing. It echoes and builds upon the long history of climate-related work from both national academies, as well as on the newest climate-change assessment from the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It touches on current areas of active debate and ongoing research, such as the link between ocean heat content and the rate of warming.

This book was released on 2020-02-10 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out to give a rigorous mathematical description of the greenhouse effect through the theory of infrared atmospheric emission. In contrast to traditional climatological analysis, this approach eschews empirical relations in favour of a strict thermodynamical derivation, based on data from NASA and from the HITRAN spectroscopy database. The results highlight new aspects of the role of clouds in the greenhouse effect.

Download or read book Infrared Thermography Recent Advances and Future Trends written by Carosena Meola and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2012-08-03 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared thermography (IRT) is a non-contact, non-invasive methodology which allows for detection of thermal energy that is radiated from objects in the infrared band of the electromagnetic spectrum, for conversion of such energy into a visible image (such as a surface temperature map). This feature represents a great potential to be exploited in a vast variety of fields from aerospace to civil engineering, to medicine, to agriculture, etc. However, IRT is still not adequately enclosed in industrial instrumentation and there are still potential users who might benefit from the use of such a technique and who are not aware of their existence. This e-book conveys information about basic IRT theory, infrared detectors, signal digitalization and applications of infrared thermography in many fields such as medicine, foodstuff conservation, fluid-dynamics, architecture, anthropology, condition monitoring, non destructive testing and evaluation of materials and structures. The volume promotes an exchange of information between the academic world and industry, and shares methodologies which were independently developed and applied in specific disciplines.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Department of Defense recently highlighted intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities as a top priority for U.S. warfighters. Contributions provided by ISR assets in the operational theaters in Iraq and Afghanistan have been widely documented in press reporting. While the United States continues to increase investments in ISR capabilities, other nations not friendly to the United States will continue to seek countermeasures to U.S. capabilities. The Technology Warning Division of the Defense Intelligence Agency's (DIA) Defense Warning Office (DWO) has the critical responsibility, in collaborations with other components of the intelligence community (IC), for providing U.S. policymakers insight into technological developments that may impact future U.S. warfighting capabilities. To this end, the IC requested that the National Research Council (NRC) investigate and report on key visible and infrared detector technologies, with potential military utility, that are likely to be developed in the next 10-15 years. This study is the eighth in a series sponsored by the DWO and executed under the auspices of the NRC TIGER (Technology Insight-Gauge, Evaluate, and Review) Standing Committee.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of this book continues to provide a detailed treatment of various aspects of atmospheric phenomena and their underlying physical principles. It offers a study of both physical and dynamical aspects of the atmosphere. After discussing the fundamental processes such as origin of the atmosphere, atmospheric thermodynamics, atmospheric radiation and cloud and precipitation formation, the book focuses on equipping students with a thorough understanding of weather and climate. New in this edition The new edition includes i) A new chapter on ‘Climate system’ dealing with important differences between local, regional and global climates and provides detailed description of all the five components of the climate system. ii) Important issues of global warming and climate change together with detailed exposition of its causes and effects. iii) Additional material is included in Chapter 8 that deals with Atmospheric Boundary layer (ABL) structure and its formation, as well as Monin-Obukhov similarity theory iv) Additional material is included in Chapter 3 that deals with derivation of Saturated Adiabatic Lapse Rate. v) Chapter 10 ′Large Scale Meteorological systems in the Mid-Latitudes′ includes quasi-geostrophic approximation and the associated quasi-geostrophic equations. Target Audience Intended primarily as an introductory textbook for the postgraduate students of atmospheric sciences, geophysics, and meteorology, this book would also be extremely useful to all those engaged in meteorological research.
