Book Atlas of Prenatal Rat Brain Development

Download or read book Atlas of Prenatal Rat Brain Development written by Joseph Altman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-11-21 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The result of 3 decades of original research and instruction by internationally referenced authors, Drs. Joseph Altman and Shirley A. Bayer, the Atlas of Prenatal Rat Brain Development provides a complete, state-of-the-art presentation of the developing prenatal rat brain. With the aid of advanced computer graphics, Altman and Bayer revolutionize the study of the highly vulnerable prenatal brain and bring us closer to understanding the dynamics of its development, its malfunctions, deficits, and abnormalities. Their contributions to the field of brain research, and hence to our knowledge of brain disorders, are unsurpassed. The Atlas contains more than 265 platesÛeach plate accompanied by a computer-aided drawing, a 3-dimensional reconstruction of brain slices never before achieved with such accuracy and clarity, that assists in the visualization of the brain and of the relationships among various brain regions. A new, user-friendly alphanumeric coding system is used, allowing for easy identification of brain regions.

Book Chemical Neuroanatomy of the Prenatal Rat Brain

Download or read book Chemical Neuroanatomy of the Prenatal Rat Brain written by George Alan Foster and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are other rat brain atlases available, but this is the definitive atlas of the early and late gestational age rat brain. It shows the development of anatomical structures from embryonic day 13 to the day of birth, using section-by-section photomicrographs together with accompanyingline diagrams. Over 750 structures are identified, giving functional as well as anatomical descriptions, including up to eight transmitter-delineated cell groups on each accompanying map. The emphasis throughout is on facilitating the identification of structures for those without advancedtraining in anatomy, enhanced by a comprehensive index of structures, abbreviations, temporal appearance, and spatial orientation to make pathfinding as easy as possible. With over 230 micrographs of superb quality, Chemical neuroanatomy of the prenatal rat brain: a developmental atlas will be anessential resource for all researchers in developmental and molecular neurobiology.

Book Developmental Brain Maps

  • Author : Gonzalo Alvarez-Bolado
  • Publisher : Elsevier Science Limited
  • Release : 1996
  • ISBN : 9780444819031
  • Pages : 152 pages

Download or read book Developmental Brain Maps written by Gonzalo Alvarez-Bolado and published by Elsevier Science Limited. This book was released on 1996 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a companion to the atlas of the adult rat brain (Brain Maps: Structure of the Rat Brain, Elsevier, 1992), using a consistent approach to nomenclature and graphical representation. The two goals of the approach used for the book, are to clarify the basic structural plan of the mammalian brain, and to generate computer graphics maps for summarizing related information, using the rat as a particular model. Included is also a discussion of how similar the development of rat and mouse brains may be, and thus how useful the maps may be as a guide to mouse brain development. The heart of the book is, of course, the atlases of the brain at progressive stages of embryogenesis. Nine representative ages are used, from the simple neural plate stage, to a time just before birth. At each stage, enough levels are presented to illustrate the major known structural features, with additional supporting planes and photomicrographs. The second component of the book discusses the classical approach to interpreting the gross structure of the developing brain, while a third component is more theoretical, and deals with methods to produce flattened maps or footprints of the central nervous system. Finally problems associated with identifying specific structures in the embryonic brain, and the many inconsistencies found in nomenclature associated with the developing and adult rat brain are presented.

Book The Reeler Mouse as a Model of Brain Development

Download or read book The Reeler Mouse as a Model of Brain Development written by Catherine Lambert de Rouvroit and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Only five years ago, nobody in his right mind would have consid ered publishing a book on reeler as a model for brain develop ment. Although this interesting mutation has been with us for half a century, it is fair to say that, in spite of a wave of enthusiasm in the late sixties and early seventies, generated primarily by Sidman, Caviness and colleagues, studies of reeler mice fell pro gressively out of fashion during the next two decades. All that changed almost overnight when the cloning of the reeler gene, dubbed reelin, was reported in Tom Curran's laboratory in 1995. The fact that the same gene was identified at the same time independently by two other groups using positional cloning sug gested strongly that reelin was the right candidate. Although the key experiments of transgenic rescue have not been made (and perhaps will never be), the equation "reeler is reelin" has been established beyond reasonable doubt, as alterations of the reelin gene and/or its expression have been found in at least five alleles of reeler and in the mutation Shaking Rat Kawasaki (SRK), an ortholog of reeler.
