Book If Your Heart Is Like My Heart

Download or read book If Your Heart Is Like My Heart written by Shane Stanford and published by ACU Press. This book was released on 2017-01-10 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Awaken the imagination to what is possible when people of faith respond to God's call. We've forgotten that the key to being healthy is realizing we're not on the path alone. When we're not well, it affects the entire system in which we live and work and play. When we grasp our shared humanity rather than resisting it, the mirror becomes less dim, and we begin to cast light on questions of health and healthcare. Wholeness and wellness are necessities for the kind of world we want to create, a world that regards individuals with worth and dignity because God regards them that way. Bound up in our shared humanity is our shared pilgrimage of health and faith. In community, both in body and spirit, we journey together toward the heart of God.

Book Memoirs of an Illegal Alien

Download or read book Memoirs of an Illegal Alien written by Fernando Briceño and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MEMOIRS OF AN ILLEGAL ALIEN AN AMERICAN ADVENTURE Fernando is a table tennis player representing his school from Ecuador at the US Open in Miami in 1986. After the tournament, with his brother Jaime and his teammate Douglas, he gets on a New York City bound Greyhound bus. Fernando is captivated by the grandeur of the city and, after his return to Ecuador, dreams of going back someday. Three months later he returns to the United States. This time he overstays his visa and becomes an illegal alien. He struggles on account of things varied in nature and overcomes most of them. He also gets to savor some triumphs. He gets married in 1997 and obtains a work permit. In 1999, he gets a DEA-sensitive clearance, and he starts to work in the wiretap department. His marriage ends up in a divorce before getting a green card, and he is in limbo. He continues to work wiretaps for the DEA, Customs, IRS, ICE, ATF, and others. His dedication, passion, and work quality, despite the fact that he is a high school dropout, catapult him to the top of his game, and he is offered to work directly for the DEA by starting his own company. He jumps at the chance, and with great success, he manages to work for the government in some of the most exciting drug-smuggling cases in the United States. Almost twenty-four years after his arrival to this country, Fernando is in need of a lung transplant. He still is an illegal alien and hopes that someday he will get his green card and maybe die a United States citizen, in the country that he loves. His father, an American citizen, filed a petition on his behalf in 2004, and the wait to legalize his status goes on.

Prison, yes! Scary, yes! Yes, to a scrawny kid with no education and no direction. Luckily, while in prison he found the right friends, combining that with a strong will to succeed and the raw energy to try something new. He achieved many goals from a high school diploma to being a world-renowned weightlifter, still holding the US 630# Dead Lift Title. He won every match he attempted, set over forty-five records, and was the only inmate to be flown out of state for a meet in Colorado. While accomplishing these feats in prison, he had to cope with different personalities and temperaments.

Book Take You Wherever You Go

Download or read book Take You Wherever You Go written by Kenny Leon and published by Grand Central Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Tony Award-winning director and recipient of the prestigious Mr. Abbott Award, Kenny Leon, comes a powerful memoir of the lessons he has learned on his incredible life journey. When Kenny Leon's grandmother told him to "take you wherever you go," she could hardly have anticipated that he would establish himself as one of Broadway's most exciting and acclaimed directors. But through years of hard work, Kenny would migrate from a small wooden house in rural Florida to the Tony Awards' stage, where he would win Best Direction of a Play for his 2014 revival of A Raisin in the Sun. In Take You Wherever You Go, Leon reflects on the pillars of wisdom he learned every step of the way from the most important people in his life--from his grandmother's sagacious and encouraging motivations to the steady hand of his mother to the deep artistic and social influence of iconic American playwright August Wilson. Take You Wherever You Go is a poignant, ruminative, and inspirational memoir that empowers you to be true to yourself as you navigate your own path.

Their tale began in the first book of the series, Dark Clouds over Alabama. To escape the stigma of hate and prejudice, Obadiah and Penelope marry and move away from Alabama with their mothers and several slaves to El Dorado, Arkansas. They purchase a 600-acre plantation named Three Oaks, situated a few miles from El Dorado in southwest Arkansas. In this quiet, peaceful town, Obadiah opens up a medical practice and becomes the town’s beloved doctor. Under the Blue Skies of El Dorado, Obadiah and Penelope’s love blossoms, their family grows, the Civil War ends, and freedom comes to slaves in the South. Obadiah’s Christian beliefs and his deep faith in God see him through the troubled times. The novel presents love and hope in the best definition as it deals with tragedy and triumph in the Old South. Blue Skies is a must-read for anyone interested in this fascinating chapter of American history.
