Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Athva Sur: The Gateway to the Infinite" is a profound and metamorphosing idea known as "Athva Sur," a mythological pause in the music that crosses the barrier of sound and silence. The following book proceeds to offer the deep philosophical exposition of how these moments of silence can be a portal to the infinite, revealing new dimensions of existence and consciousness. In this stimulating work, the author opens up the layers of "Athva Sur" to show how this mere pause in the expression of music holds the key to opening great insights into the spiritual and the philosophical. A look at the interrelationship between silence and sound shows a new perspective on how pauses in music are not voids but powerful spaces connecting us with the eternal and the boundless. Key Themes: •Philosophical Contemplation: The book has, in fact, elaborated the philosophy of "Athva Sur" where the idea of infinity within musical breath has been joined. It elaborates how the still moments in music are capable of reflecting reality about us and our bondage with Nature. Musical-Spiritual Insight: The book illustrates how pauses are used and interpreted by the interpretive instances of different musical traditions. It connects the technical aspects of musical silence to its spiritual meaning and shows how "Athva Sur" can lead to transcendent experiences and deep self-awareness. Cultural and Historical Perspectives: The author explains very well how various cultures and musical traditions approach the issue of silence and pauses. The book traces how such a tradition, from classical to contemporary music, embraces "Athva Sur" for the betterment of emotional expression and spirituality. • Prakrtika Upyog: Reader will be able to find out different ways of using "Athva Sur" in performing musical arts and personal practices. This would very essentially provide practical advice on how to use the power of stops to enrich artistic creativity, deepen spiritual practices, and come closer to inner peace. The Infinite Connection: Finally, Athva Sur: The Gateway to the Infinite invites readers into the exploration of how pauses in music open doors to infinite realms of thought and being. It invokes a journey into quiet spaces revealing profound truths about the cosmos, self, and the interconnectedness of all things. A serious investigation into the profound and resonating power of "Athva Sur" through philosophy, theory of music, and spiritual introspection, it is a scholarship and a personal guide.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book on which this commentary is written is titled 'History and Philosophy of Liṅgᾱyat Religion' by M. R. Sakhare, M. A., T. D. (Cantab), published by the Karnatak University, Dharwad, India, in the year 1978. During the process of continued study and understanding of the available sacred literature, and writing ten books in the past, it was evident to me that I had referred to a book by Professor M. R. Sakhare called 'History and Philosophy of Liṅgᾱyat Religion' published by Karnatak University, Dharwad, India. It appears that this scholarly work, in English, of Professor Sakhare was frequently referred to in the past by the students of Philosophy and Religion in order to seek further insight into the Religious Philosophy of Liṅgᾱyatas who are also known as Vīraśaivas. Although the book had been regarded as one of the authentic works in English on this subject, some questions have been raised as to its usefulness as a reference book in the present day circumstances. With this in mind, the book was reviewed, and then, as it seemed appropriate to report the findings, this commentary has been submitted to the interested and concerned readers. This is a critical review.

Book excerpt: Many aspects of Medieval Western Indian temple art have been the subject of scholarly attention. One type of temple-image which has been identified but heretofore unstudied is the portrait. This study brings together evidence of more than 200 images of historical lay people and ascetics from the medieval temples of Gujarat and Rajasthan. The author emphasizes Jain specimens, but also includes a number of notable Hindu examples. However, it is the evidence of the Jain portraits that is by far the most significant. This book provides some startling insights into the beliefs and practices of the Śvetāmbara sect of Jainism in a period from about the 12th to 17th centuries. The analysis of lay portraits illuminates some very significant episodes in this period of Jain history. The discussion of monks' portraits presents much that is contrary to expectation. Evidence indicates that even Jain monks donated portraits of other monks. This is surprising since gifting is a practice commonly thought to be a lay prerogative and not allowed to ascetics. The reasons for these monastic donations are discussed and investigated, and reveal that the worldview of medieval Jain monks was often something very different from that portrayed in much of Jain scholarship to date.

Book excerpt: Although there are many types of yoga practice, the Vedic literature explains that no matter which practice you choose, success is only achieved when bhakti is present. What is bhakti-yoga, and how can you add it to your life or your current yoga practice? As bhakti is a pivotal element in any yogic or religious practice, it is known as the topmost yoga. In the Bhagavad-gita, Krishna explains bhakti-yoga to his dear friend Arjuna, and here Srila Prabhupada expands these concepts in this introductory text.
Download or read book Bhartrhari written by Mithilesh Chaturvedi and published by Motilal Banarsidass. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the outcome of the international seminar on Bhartrhari: Thought, Language and Reality held in New Delhi on 12-14 December 2003 as part of the centenary celebrations of Motilal Banarasidass. In this seminar, scholars from all over the world presented their interpretations of Bhartrhariês philosophy, some of the light of the modern trends in philosophy and linguistics, others in the backdrop of Indian tradition. This volume contains almost all the papers presented at the seminar along with some other papers invited from scholars who could not participate in the seminar to make it comprehensive. The papers discuss the metaphysics of Bhartrhari and his ideas about questions concerned language and reality. Some of the papers compare Bhartrhari with Western Philosophers and linguists like Wittgenstein, Grice, Searle, Humboldt, Chomsky and Goldbert, thus showing his relevance to problems in contemporary philosophy and linguistics. It is clear that after the initial efforts in the fourth to sixth decades of the twentieth century, Bhartrhari studies have now gained a significant momentum.
