Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Mother of the Unseen World is absolutely riveting, deeply searching, and thought-provoking.”—Gretchen Rubin For readers interested in the mysteries of spiritual awakening, an exploration of the Indian “avatar” Mother Meera, known as an embodiment of the Divine Feminine Throughout history there have been rare individuals who transcend what seems humanly possible, “enlightened” beings born with knowledge and experience that defy explanation. Kamala Reddy was a ten-year-old servant in rural India when her mysterious powers were recognized; she is believed to be an “avatar”—a divine incarnation in human form—and was soon given the name Mother Meera. Over the past forty years, she has welcomed millions of seekers from all faiths to have darshan (silent blessing) at her homes in Germany and India. Mother Meera has no dogma, offers her gifts free of charge, and belongs to no particular religion. Her transformational work is done using a particular light, she explains, which she transmits through her fingertips when she touches each person’s head during darshan, undoing “energetic knots” and quickening a person’s spiritual development. “Like electricity, the light is everywhere, but one must know how to activate it. I have come for that,” she says. Mark Matousek was a nonbeliever when he met Mother Meera in 1985. Yet, in her presence, he experienced inexplicable occurrences that forced him to challenge his worldview. Now, in this deeply moving and wise book, he takes us as close as possible to this extraordinary woman. Is divine incarnation truly possible, he asks, as most of the world’s religions insist? Who is Mother Meera, really? Speaking to members of her inner circle, working at her school for the poor in India, and interviewing the elusive master herself, Matousek takes the reader on a mysterious quest into the “unseen world” where the divine and human intersect. Advance praise for Mother of the Unseen World “Mother of the Unseen World reads like a classic adventure novel, with one exception—much of the adventure goes on inside the reader as we follow Mark Matousek’s everyman journey from pain and doubt to discovery and awakening.”—Elizabeth Lesser, author of Broken Open and co-founder of Omega Institute “Mark Matousek brings us to the feet of Mother Meera in this transcendent, rapturous, astonishing book.”—Eve Ensler, author of The Vagina Monologues and In the Body of the World “At once a spiritual autobiography and an exploration of one of the most mystical beings of our time.”—Dani Shapiro “Mother Meera’s message of peace and love has touched me profoundly.”—Ringo Starr

Book The House of Hidden Mothers

Download or read book The House of Hidden Mothers written by Meera Syal and published by Sarah Crichton Books. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shyama, a forty-eight-year-old London divorcée, already has an unruly teenage daughter, but that doesn't stop her and her younger lover, Toby, from wanting a child together. Their relationship may look like a cliché, but despite the news from her doctor that she no longer has any viable eggs, Shyama's not ready to give up on their dream of having a baby. So they decide to find an Indian surrogate to carry their child, which is how they meet Mala, a young woman trapped in an oppressive marriage in a small Indian town from which she's desperate to escape. But as the pregnancy progresses, they discover that their simple arrangement may be far more complicated than it seems. In The House of Hidden Mothers, Meera Syal, an acclaimed British actress and accomplished novelist, takes on the timely but underexplored issue of India's booming surrogacy industry. Western couples pay a young woman to have their child and then fly home with a baby, an easy narrative that ignores the complex emotions involved in carrying a child. Syal turns this phenomenon into a compelling, thoughtful novel already hailed in the UK as "rumbustious, confrontational and ultimately heartbreaking . . . Turn[s] the standard British-Asian displacement narrative on its head" (The Guardian). Compulsively readable and with a winning voice, The House of Hidden Mothers deftly explores subjects of age, class, and the divide between East and West.

Few humans in the future find the secrets of what words and sounds can do, for the Apocalypse and war have led them to evolve in mind and physique. Two of them end World War III with just a four-minute speech. Some say they did mass hypnosis. Others say it was their voice and will. Fifty years later in South Asia, KUSHA, a twenty-three-year-old machine-geek with social awkwardness and amnesia, tries to get the Devil’s Book with secrets of voice. But her idol of voice and everyone's beloved war heroes, YUAN and RUEM, are also after it for power. In a society that worships the evolved High Grades with voice, how you speak and which words you talk with is important. As someone who finds all solutions in books, Kusha thinks the secrets in the three-foot-long ancient book will teach her to speak mesmerizingly. She believes it will help her evolve. So, she decides to attend the auction where the book will be sold. But there's a problem; powerful High Grades want the book too. They want to code fate, rewriting the material world. They are undead, immortal mesmerizers. And being a philosopher, Kusha admires their ethics while she must fight them—the fight that starts with the book. The fight creates a chain reaction leading her to an epic journey. From the high-stakes worlds of television and politics to the intimate corridors of home--including the bedroom--these wryly observed, deeply revealing stories look at life in Pakistan with humor, compassion, psychological acuity, and emotional immediacy. Childhood best friends agree to marry in order to keep their sexuality a secret. A young woman with an anxiety disorder discovers the numbing pleasures of an illicit love affair. An actress is forced to grow up fast on the set of her first major tv show, where the real intrigue takes place off-screen. Every story bears witness to the all-too-universal desire to be loved, and what happens when this longing gets pushed to its limits. Are You Enjoying? is a free-spirited, confident, indelible introduction to a galvanizing new talent.

Book The Selling of Joseph

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dieudonné Mayi
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2003
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 446 pages

Download or read book The Selling of Joseph written by Dieudonné Mayi and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2003 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main message of this book is recognition of the undeniable fact that continental Africans played a key role in selling their fellow Africans to slavery. The book pleads for forgiveness from an African perspective. The biblical story of the selling of Joseph to slavery by his own brothers was used to look at black slavery in the Americas, a similar historical injustice which occurred in the modern era of human history. I am trying to extract from this tragedy something that has not been addressed much before: a healing message of hope for forgiveness. Not only the message urges sincere admission of wrongdoing and forgiveness on the part of the transgressors, but it also calls for the due recognition of the accomplishments of black slaves and their descendants in the Americas, Europe, and Africa. Finally, I am introducing a concept of moral reparations as a first step to achieve everlasting healing for historical injustices, like black slavery, which oppose groups of people not merely one group and a government.

Book Sex Death Enlightenment

The symptoms of living here, succeeding here, and losing your mind here are almost identical." So begins Matousek's 1996 breakout memoir about leaving a fast-track publishing life (working for pop artist Andy Warhol at Interview Magazine) and hitting the dharma trail in search of a meaningful life and spiritual wisdom. Hailed by Publisher's Weekly as "brave, beautiful, and brilliantly observed," Sex Death Enlightenment became an international best seller (published in 10 countries). Like Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat Pray Love and Paul Monette in Borrowed Time, Matousek takes the reader on an insightful, rollicking search for answers to life's deepest questions in this landmark memoir. “Mark Matousek takes you everywhere his title promises – and then some. Sex Death Enlightenment is the most gripping and elegantly written memoir I’ve read in ages. Book Hidden Journey

Book excerpt: Andrew Harvey, an Anglo-Indian novelist and poet, expands on the spiritual transformation that he described in part in Journey in Ladakh. Beginning in 1978 when he first met Meera, the Indian woman who would be his Master, Harvey (who at the time was teaching literature in England and the US), struggled for-- and against-- enlightenment for nine years. With other disciples he followed Meera, who he came to see as Ma, the Divine Mother. In India and then in Germany, under her guidance, he confronted his confused sexuality, his attachment to intellect and reason, his pride and his fears. Harvey's precise, passionately told story will touch sceptics as well as seekers.
