Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dutch economy has relied on trade for centuries. During the seventeenth century the Netherlands experienced a Golden Age built largely on commercial enterprise, and trade continues to be the golden link in the supply chain from producers to consumers. Yet we know very little about the business of trade and the people involved in it. What was the nature of their work, and how did it evolve through the ages? In the lavishly illustrated At Home on the World Markets Joost Jonker and Keetie Sluyterman look at mercantile dynasties - such as the Trips and the Van Eeghens - and companies - such as the famous Dutch East Indian Company VOC and the modern trading company Hagemeyer - that have been largely unstudied. They describe the evolution of a unique economic sector that occupies a key position in the supply chain from producers to consumers.

Book Winning Global Markets

Download or read book Winning Global Markets written by Philip Kotler and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-08-18 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new marketing paradigm focuses on the concentrated economic power of 600 global cities. City-Centered Marketing: Why Local is the Future of Global Business is a compelling practical analysis of a new direction of marketing within the context of intensifying urbanization and the shift of global economy from West to East. Philip Kotler, one of the world's foremost marketing experts, and his brother Milton, an international marketing strategist, explain why the future of marketing must focus on top global cities and their metro regions, and not squandered resources on small cities. Marketing is city-centered activity. 600 global cities will contribute 65 percent of the global GDP of $67 trillion by 2025. The top 100 cities will contribute 25 percent of GDP, and 440 of these top 600 cities will be in the developing world. Top cities have to improve their marketing prowess in compete for the right companies and settling on the best terms. By 2025, the vast majority of consuming and middle-income households will be in developing regions. While New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago will remain major players because of high per-capita GDP and capital and intellectual assets, companies will pay more attention to growing city regions in the developing world. Multinational businesses must change the culture of their headquarters, divisions and branches, as well as their value chain stakeholders to take advantage of these market changes. The book details the strategies for sustainable growth with topics like: Resource allocation in developed versus developing city markets Shifting the focus to city regions instead of central governments The rise of new multinational corporations from developing economies Declining consumer and business growth in developed cities Cities in China, Brazil, India, and throughout the Middle East and Latin America are rising to become major players in the global marketplace. Philip and Milton Kotler argue that an inversion is taking place, and top cities are growing economically faster than their national rate of growth. These emerging city markets are critical to company growth , and City-Centered Marketing: Why Local is the Future of Global Business provides the vital information and guidelines that companies need to plan accordingly.

Book Germany s Comeback in the World Market

Download or read book Germany s Comeback in the World Market written by Ludwig Erhard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A great deal has been talked about the economic recovery of Western Germany since the Second World War. It is know htat this recovery was accompanied by the return of the Federal Republic to the markets of the world. Not so much is know abotu the details - about the work effected through the opitimism of the Minister for Economics, Professor Ludwig Erhard. In this book, the minister himself speaks. A detailed description is given of the stages by which first the Bizone, and then the Federal Republic, has effected the remarkable comeback which has created keen interest and concern. The book goes into the full detail which might be expected from on who is in charge of the entire machinery. The description of the way in which Government policy was employed to stimulate a free market economy is of great technical interest. Equally important is the detailed description of the way in which every nook and cranny is exploited to give the Federal Republic a foothold in foreign markets. No opportunity is neglected, from the fostering of the most ambitious long-term capital development schemes to the publication of day-to-day reports on trade openings. This book was first published in 1954.

Book Farm Policies And World Markets Monitoring And Disciplining The International Trade Impacts Of Agricultural Policies

Download or read book Farm Policies And World Markets Monitoring And Disciplining The International Trade Impacts Of Agricultural Policies written by Timothy Josling and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-03-11 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the book is to provide interested readers with access to a number of articles that have been written over the years on the subject of the linkages between domestic farm policies (particularly in developed countries) and world markets for agricultural goods. The scope of the book includes the measurement of protection and the estimation of transfers to agricultural producers, the effect of these policies on consumers and the consequent impact on international trade. A major theme is that the monitoring of the trade and transfer implications of farm policies is an essential first step to addressing the need for internationally agreed disciplines on their nature and extent. The topic of trade impacts of farm policies has become important in two different market situations. When agricultural commodity prices are depressed, attention turns to the activities of countries (particularly developed countries) that support the income of their own farmers but at the expense of farmers in other countries. When prices rise, as they have done in the last five years, the question is reversed: what is the impact of the farm and food policies that restrict exports to keep domestic prices low on food security in other countries? Thus, the narrative of the monitoring of farm policies by international organizations such as the OECD and the disciplining of such policies under the rules of the WTO is as relevant today as in the 1970s when the first efforts in this direction were made.

Book Mainstreams in Industrial Organization

Download or read book Mainstreams in Industrial Organization written by H.W. de Jong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present two volumes contain the essays and part of the discussions as presented at the conference on Mainstreams in Industrial Organiza tion, held at the University of Amsterdam, 21-23 August 1985. The thema was chosen because the field of studies commonly designated "industrial organization" in the Anglo-Saxon countries, or "market theory" in Continental Europe, has experienced important alterations during the past decade. Partly this reflects changing theoretical views inside the field, in which shifts in the core concepts have occurred and different emphasis is laid on time-honoured views and results. Partly, critical views have been voiced from outside the field. As in all open scientific debate, they have to be weighed and, if necessary, taken into account. Partly also, diver gent developments in thinking between the Anglo-Saxon, European and Japanese areas need to be considered, because both the problems and the ways of approaching them still differ. The variety of views, theori~s and results is testimony to the vitality of this field of economics; variety is generated by the creative endeavours, from which the chaff is being beaten out by critical discussions. That is especially true for the concept of competition itself, which industrial organization economists are debating intensively.

Book Running the World s Markets

Download or read book Running the World s Markets written by Ruben Lee and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2010-12-28 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The efficiency, safety, and soundness of financial markets depend on the operation of core infrastructure--exchanges, central counter-parties, and central securities depositories. How these institutions are governed critically affects their performance. Yet, despite their importance, there is little certainty, still less a global consensus, about their governance. Running the World's Markets examines how markets are, and should be, run. Utilizing a wide variety of arguments and examples from throughout the world, Ruben Lee identifies and evaluates the similarities and differences between exchanges, central counter-parties, and central securities depositories. Drawing on knowledge and experience from various disciplines, including business, economics, finance, law, politics, and regulation, Lee employs a range of methodologies to tackle different goals. Conceptual analysis is used to examine theoretical issues, survey evidence to describe key aspects of how market infrastructure institutions are governed and regulated globally, and case studies to detail the particular situations and decisions at specific institutions. The combination of these approaches provides a unique and rich foundation for evaluating the complex issues raised. Lee analyzes efficient forms of governance, how regulatory powers should be allocated, and whether regulatory intervention in governance is desirable. He presents guidelines for identifying the optimal governance model for any market infrastructure institution within the context of its specific environment. Running the World's Markets provides a definitive and peerless reference for how to govern and regulate financial markets.
