Book Numerical Assessments of Cracks in Elastic Plastic Materials

Download or read book Numerical Assessments of Cracks in Elastic Plastic Materials written by Huang Yuan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book a systematic discussion of crack problems in elastic-plastic materials is presented. The state of the art in fracture mechanics research and assessment of cracks is documented, with the help of analytic, asymptotic methods as well as finite element computations. After a brief introduction to fracture mechanics, the two-parameter concept for stationary cracks is studied in addition to the issues in three-dimensional crack fields under coupling with strong out-of-plane effects. Cracks along interfaces and crack growth problems under mixed mode conditions are also treated. A systematic study of stress singularities for different notches is accompanied by detailed finite element computations.

Book Material Instabilities in Elastic and Plastic Solids

Download or read book Material Instabilities in Elastic and Plastic Solids written by Henryk Petryk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects recent theoretical developments in the area of material instability in elastic and plastic solids along with related analytical and numerical methods and applications. The existing different approaches to instability phenomena in metal single crystals, polycristals and in geomaterials are presented with the emphasis laid on mutual relations and on unifying concepts, including elliptictly loss and the energy criterion. Quasi-static bifurcation, initiation of single or multiple shear bands and post-critical strain localization are examined along with dynamic phenomena as wave propagation, moving shocks, internal snap-through and instability of flutter type. This gives an overview of a variety of material instability problems, methods and applications.

Book Cracks and Fracture

Download or read book Cracks and Fracture written by K. Bertram Broberg and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-02-24 with total page 771 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cracks and Fracture consists of nine chapters in logical sequence. In two introductory chapters, physical processes in the vicinity of the crack edge are discussed and the fracture process is described. Chapter 3 develops general basic concepts and relations in crack mechanics, such as path independent integrals, stress intensity factors and energy flux into the crack edge region. Chapters 4-7 deal with elastostatic cracks, stationary or slowly moving elastic-plastic cracks, elastodynamic crack mechanics and elastoplastic aspects of fracture, including dynamic fracture mechanics. Appendices include general formulae, the basic theory of analytic functions, introduction to Laplace and Hankel transforms and description of certain basic relations, for instance for stress waves in solids. There is an extensive bibliography, containing references to both classical and recent work, and a comprehensive index. Book Crack Dynamics in Metallic Materials

Download or read book Crack Dynamics in Metallic Materials written by J.R. Klepaczko and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an up-to-date knowledge on theory and experimental results of rate-dependent fracture processes in metallic materials. The objective is to expose the current status of a growing branch of fracture mechanics called generally "Dynamic Fracture". Crack dynamics takes into account not only the effects of inertia but also rate sensitivity of a material under consideration. This volume has been prepared by four leading authorities in fracture dynamics: D.R. Curran, J.F. Kalthoff, J.R. Klepaczko and F. Nilsson. A broad range of problem is covered: dynamic fracture theory, application of dynamic fracture mechanics, dynamic crack inition and microstatistical fracture mechanics in dynamic fracture. The book in its present format may serve as a text supplement in lecturing on fracture mechanics. On the other hand, it may serve as an instructional aid in engineering of fracture prevention.

Book Non Linear Fracture

  • Author : W.G. Knauss
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-03-09
  • ISBN : 940172444X
  • Pages : 406 pages

Download or read book Non Linear Fracture written by W.G. Knauss and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From time to time the International Journal of Fracture has presented special matters thought to be of interest to its readers. In previous issues, for example, Dr. H.W. Liu as Guest Editor assembled a series of review papers dealing with fatigue processes and characteristics in metals and non-metals (December 1980 and April 1981). Five years ago Guest Editor W.G. Knauss collected works dealing with dynamic fracture (March and April 1985). Continuing this policy, Dr. W.G. Knauss and Dr. A.J. Rosakis of the California Institute of Technology as Guest Editors have now organized an extensive set of papers concerning the influence of non-linear effects upon the mechanics of the fracture process. This collection is based upon contributions to a relatively small international Symposium on Non Linear Fracture Mechanics held under the auspices of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) and convened at the California Institute of Technology in March 1988. It should be noted that although the description of non-linear fracture inherently encompasses a strong material science component, this aspect is not heavily emphasized in the ensuing papers due to the intentional focus upon mechanics. Volume 42 of the International Journal of Fracture will therefore, in successive issues, deal respectively with topics in (1) Damage, (2) Interfaces and Creep, (3) Time Dependence, and (4) Continuum Plasticity. On behalf of the editors and publishers, I wish to express our appreciation to Dr. Knauss, Dr. Rosakis, and their colleagues for their collective efforts.

Book Comprehensive Structural Integrity

Download or read book Comprehensive Structural Integrity written by Ian Milne and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-07-25 with total page 4647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this major reference work is to provide a first point of entry to the literature for the researchers in any field relating to structural integrity in the form of a definitive research/reference tool which links the various sub-disciplines that comprise the whole of structural integrity. Special emphasis will be given to the interaction between mechanics and materials and structural integrity applications. Because of the interdisciplinary and applied nature of the work, it will be of interest to mechanical engineers and materials scientists from both academic and industrial backgrounds including bioengineering, interface engineering and nanotechnology. The scope of this work encompasses, but is not restricted to: fracture mechanics, fatigue, creep, materials, dynamics, environmental degradation, numerical methods, failure mechanisms and damage mechanics, interfacial fracture and nano-technology, structural analysis, surface behaviour and heart valves. The structures under consideration include: pressure vessels and piping, off-shore structures, gas installations and pipelines, chemical plants, aircraft, railways, bridges, plates and shells, electronic circuits, interfaces, nanotechnology, artificial organs, biomaterial prostheses, cast structures, mining... and more. Case studies will form an integral part of the work.
