Book The Astronomy of the Bible The Original Classic Edition

Download or read book The Astronomy of the Bible The Original Classic Edition written by and published by Tebbo. This book was released on 2012-04-02 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally available, a high quality book of the original classic edition of The Astronomy of the Bible. It was previously published by other bona fide publishers, and is now, after many years, back in print. This is a new and freshly published edition of this culturally important work by E. Walter Maunder, which is now, at last, again available to you. Enjoy this classic work today. These selected paragraphs distill the contents and give you a quick look inside The Astronomy of the Bible: It will be noticed that the Classical age did not commence until about the time of the completion of the last books of the Old Testament; so we do not find any reference in Holy Scripture to the astronomical achievements of that period, amongst which the first attempts to explain the apparent motions of sun, moon, stars, and planets were the most considerable. ...We cannot for a moment expect that any [7]supernatural revelation of purely material facts would be imparted to the writers of sacred books, two or three thousand years before the progress of science had brought those facts to light, and we ought not to be surprised if expressions are occasionally used which we should not ourselves use to-day, if we were writing about the phenomena of nature from a technical point of view. ...For by these words they were taught that all the host of heaven and of earth were created things-merely 'things, ' not divinities-and not only that, but that the Creator was One God, not many gods; that there was but one law-giver; and that therefore there could be no conflict of laws. ...It was then pointed out that, so far as the narrative was concerned, there might have been a period of almost unlimited duration between its first verse and its fourth; and it was suggested that the six days of creation were six days of twenty-four hours each, in which, after some great cataclysm, 6,000 years ago, the face of the earth was renewed and replenished for the habitation of man, the preceding geological ages being left entirely unnoticed. ... Other commentators have laid stress on the truth revealed in Scripture that 'one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day, ' and have urged the argument that the six days of creation were really vast periods of time, during which the earth's geological changes and the evolution of its varied forms of life were running their course.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible and Astronomy: An Exposition of the Biblical Cosmology, and Its Relations to Natural Science The work here presented to the public in English dress, first appeared some fifteen years ago, ill the form of a quite small volume. Meeting with a favorable reception, both from its vigorous treatment of the vital questions which called it forth, and from a native interest belonging to the higher themes upon which it touches - an interest to which the human mind is ever alive - the author was twice led to enlarge and improve the treatise, until in the third edition it has reached its present size. In the work of translation I have endeavored fairly and faithfully to present the sentiments and views of the author, without omission or accommodation - all responsibility for their character of course resting with himself. Download or read book God s Glory in the Heavens Classic Reprint written by Charles A. Young and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from God's Glory in the Heavens Thou visitest him' This the student of astronomy learns to say with a profounder and more intelligent humility than any other person can. And, on the other hand, he too, I think, is likely to recognize more fully than other men the high dignity of our human nature, made in the image of God and partaking of the divine; able in amost real sense to comprehend the whole material universe, to share the thoughts of God, and to think them after Him. I do not forget, indeed, the infinity of littleness that lies, so to speak, below us - the world of microscopic organisms and struct ures, of molecules, and atoms, and light - waves; nor do I deny that here also is to be found a revelation of God, which, in its logical force and import, is as well worthy of consideration as that contained in the story of the stars. But it seems to me harder to read: the type is not so large, the sentences are more intricate, and the lan guage is far less familiar. At any rate, that is not what we have to deal with at present. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. There is no speech nor language; their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath He set a tabernacle for the sun." Ps.19: I-4. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unfortunately, modern evolutionary thinking in astronomy has caused many people to disconnect from the Bible's view of history, as they are taught that the universe is millions or even billions of years old. This book shows that the billions of evolutionary years taught in public schools are unnecessary and that one need only to look to the Creator of the Bible to explain the origin of the stars and the universe. Dr. Jason Lisle discusses and debunks popular evolutionary concepts such as the big bang and answers biblical questions like how the speed of light affects the Bible's account of history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Astronomy of the Bible: An Elementary Commentary on the Astronomical References of Holy Scripture Because commentators as a rule are not astronomers, and therefore either pass over the astronomical allusions of Scripture in silence, or else annotate them in a way which, from a scientific point of view, leaves much to be desired. Astronomical allusions in the Bible, direct and indirect, are not few in number, and, in order to bring out their full significance, need to be treated astronomically. Astronomy further gives us the power of placing ourselves to some degree in the position of the patriarchs and prophets of old. We know that the same sun and moon, stars and planets, shine upon us as shone upon Abraham and Moses, David and Isaiah. We can, if we will, see the unchanging heavens with their eyes, and understand their attitude towards them.
