Book Elevating Construction Superintendents

Download or read book Elevating Construction Superintendents written by Jason Schroeder and published by . This book was released on 2020-11-28 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To be a great superintendent, you need training. Without this, you may become defensive, learn to accept waste and low standards, or even espouse false concepts that will lead to certain failure. However, with proper fundamental training, learning from the best builders throughout history, and effectively using the modern concepts of lean, we can guide superintendents to have the best trained role in construction. Right now in our industry, project managers and project engineers are better trained, better paid, and are becoming leaders of the entire team. The positions of superintendents and project managers should be equal, but to be equal, we need to step up and take our place as the driving force of the project. This book will help you to do that and bring respect back to field positions everywhere. Before writing Elevating Construction Superintendents - The Art of the Builder, I had never found a book available for the art and form of being a superintendent. Yes, there are books about lean; yes, there are books about construction management; and yes, there are books about the skills of a superintendent, but there are none that cover the art of the builder in construction and the back-to-basics fundamental attributes of a true leader in the field. This is the first revision of the book we need and want for our wonderful builders in the field of construction. This book is filled with principles and actionable steps for assistant superintendents. I invite you to learn these, take massive action, and implement each step one-by-one. Please keep driving until everything on your project brings you joy. That is the measure of success. Expect more - Step up - Let's go

Book Construction Field Operations Reporting System Manual

Download or read book Construction Field Operations Reporting System Manual written by Gary B. Stebbings and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual was written to introduce a dynamic and powerful system of project documentation, reporting and management. It's intended for training and educating the superintendent who on many projects is responsible for all the tasks of documentation and reporting. On larger projects there may be a Field Engineer, Contract Administrator and Assistant Superintendent assigned to it, however, I'm presenting this material as though the entire documenting and reporting process is the responsibility of the Superintendent. In 2007, I was given the opportunity to implement this system as the Field Operations reporting system for a mid-size company doing national retail construction. I wrote the Excel workbook that was used as the Weekly Field Operations Report, and integrating it into our operations required extensive training of all personal, including Project Managers, Superintendents and Field Ops Managers (General Superintendents). It was a mammoth job that returned tremendous results by increasing productivity, quality of completed projects and company profits. The PM's time was greatly maximized as the superintendents were able to take on many project management responsibilities that were normally performed by the PM. As I continually fine-tuned it, the system evolved to provide very powerful and greater control and performance thanks to its ability to continually show supervision and management exactly what their status is and outstanding issues in a real-time basis. One of the system's primary roles is in automatically identifying project issues and prompting a path of resolution. Accurate and timely reporting is crucial, enabling the front office to always keep a “bird's eye view” on the jobsite, even if they're across the country. Pro-activity is a main theme, as the reports have been created in such a way as to selectively bring forth items that may be overlooked. This is especially true of the Jobsite Survey and the Weekly Project Status Report. The system is also tailored to track and manage vital financial information and report costs, such as Labor Usage, Field Change Order Requests, Payroll and issue a Weekly Project Cost Summary from the field. This manual introduces a Field Operations Reporting system to the user that provides training in the use and function of the reports contained in the Excel Workbook-Weekly Field Operations Report. The manual shows the reader how to complete each form and describes their functions in detail. The entire workbook is dynamic in function, with all worksheet pages being inter-related, designed to work with one another. Every worksheet is linked to the other for quick navigation and ease of use. In my next book, Construction Management for the Managing Superintendent, the reader will be given the opportunity and resources available to gain much-needed introductory knowledge about this challenging arena. It's written to train the construction superintendent in construction management and for those senior staff who train superintendents. This book will provide a concise “mini-course” in construction management.

Book The Successful Construction Supervisor and Foreman

Download or read book The Successful Construction Supervisor and Foreman written by Paul Netscher and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-03-22 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Construction is desperate for good, experienced, skilled and dedicated supervisors and foremen. Construction needs you. Being a construction supervisor or foreman is challenging, it's hard work, but it's also rewarding watching projects take shape under your watch. A supervisor's job is never boring - every day is different, each project is different, different locations and different people, all presenting new challenges.A construction foreman, foreperson or supervisor, supervises a work crew, or manages a section of work. They're at the coalface of every construction project - the critical link in the construction process. Good foremen and supervisors are essential to the success of every construction project and every construction company, indeed, they're invaluable. Yet, few managers and supervisors are prepared to mentor and train the next generation of supervisors and foremen. Most supervisors and foremen have years of experience on the tools, learning their trade, sometimes through apprenticeships, but mostly learning from others. These skills are focused on a particular trade or skill. But, being a supervisor is a different ballgame. Where before, as a trades-person they were doing the work themselves, now as supervisor they must organise and manage others doing the work.I'm a construction professional with 30 years of experience and the author of several acclaimed construction books, including: 'Successful Construction Project Management: The Practical Guide' and 'Construction Management: From Project Concept to Completion'. As a young engineer and later as project manager, I was fortunate to learn from many excellent supervisors and foremen. I wouldn't have achieved what I did without the foremen on my projects. They were the powerhouse on my construction projects, and I only had to steer the project to a successful conclusion. Now it's my turn to share my 30 years of construction experience and knowledge with construction supervisors and foremen. To explain why things are done in a certain way, why good paperwork is essential, but more importantly, to help supervisors and foremen become the very best.
