  • Author : Dietrich H. Welte
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642604234
  • Pages : 555 pages

Download or read book Petroleum and Basin Evolution written by Dietrich H. Welte and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been prepared by the collaborative effort of two somewhat separate technical groups: the researchers at the Institute for Petroleum and Organic Geochemistry, Forschungszentrum Jii lich (KFA), and the technical staff of Integrated Exploration Systems (IES). One of us, Donald R. Baker, from Rice University, Houston, has spent so much time at KFA as a guest scientist and researcher that it is most appropriate for him to contribute to the book. During its more than 20-year history the KFA group has made numerous and significant contributions to the understanding of petroleum evolution. The KFA researchers have emphasized both the field and laboratory approaches to such important problems as source rock recognition and evaluation, oil and gas generation, maturation of organic matter, expulsion and migration of hydrocarbons, and crude oil composition and alteration. IES Jiilich has been a leader in the development and application of numerical simulation (basin modeling) procedures. The cooperation between the two groups has resulted in a very fruitful synergy effect both in the development of modeling software and in its application. The purpose of the present volume developed out of the 1994 publication by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists of a collection of individually authored papers entitled The Petroleum System - From Source to Trap, edited by L. B. Magoon and W. G. Dow.

Book Principles and Practice of Analytical Techniques in Geosciences

Download or read book Principles and Practice of Analytical Techniques in Geosciences written by Kliti Grice and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2014-08-27 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pace of revolution in analytical chemistry in the field of Geosciences has been dramatic over recent decades and includes fundamental developments that have become common place in many related and unrelated disciplines. The analytical tools (nano to macro-scale from stable to radioactive isotopes, compound specific sulfur isotopes) used have been applied to wide-ranging applications from inorganic to organic geochemistry, biodiversity and chronological tools, to build an understanding of how the Earth system evolved to its present state. This book will provide an essential guide to exploring the earth’s natural resources and changing climate by detection science. Individual chapters bring together expertise from across the globe to present a comprehensive outlook on the analytical technologies available to the geoscientist today. Experienced researchers will appreciate the broad treatment of the subject as a valuable reference, while students and those new to the field will quickly gain an appreciation of both the techniques at hand, and the importance of constructing, and analysing, the complex data sets they can generate.

Download or read book Analytical Pyrolysis written by Kent J Voorhees and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical Pyrolysis: Techniques and Applications provides an overview of analytical pyrolysis applied to geochemistry, biology, polymers, and biomass. This book presents a survey of basic phenomena, data analysis, and instrumentation. Organized into 15 chapters, this book begins with an overview of mass spectrometry in developing ion sources that are applicable to materials that either have low volatility, high molecular weight, are thermally unstable or some combination of the three. This text then examines the role of thermal processes in many of the desorption methods. Other chapters consider desorption techniques, which are closely allied to analytical pyrolysis. This book discusses as well the Flash Vacuum Pyrolysis/Field Ionization Mass Spectrometry (FVP/FIMS) technique, which is based on a direct link between the pyrolysis unit and a double focusing mass spectrometer. The final chapter deals with inert atmosphere poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) thermal decomposition. This book is a valuable resource for chemists and researchers.
