Download or read book Coal Resources and Reserves of Canada written by H. U. Bielenstein and published by Energy, Mines and Resources Canada : Supply and Services Canada. This book was released on 1979 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Long-term projections indicate that coal demand will increase dramatically within the next 20 years placing pressure on finding, developing and financing new supplies. This report on the location, quantity and quality of Canada's coal resources and reserves is intended to provide basic information to a diverse audience including producers, consumers, transporters, investors, energy planners, governments and the general public. An accurate assessment of coal resources and reserves is an essential step towards using coal effectively to help supply Canada's future energy requirements and those of offshore markets."--Preface (page iii).

Book A Standardized Coal Resource reserve Reporting System for Canada

Download or read book A Standardized Coal Resource reserve Reporting System for Canada written by John D. Hughes and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1989 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discussion of definitions, concepts and parameters used to determine coal resource and reserve quantities, as well as providing a framework to facilitate consistent categorization of coal quantities found within various depositional and tectonic regimes in Canada. Coal deposits, or portions thereof, are first categorized in terms of their geological complexity (geology type) and probable recovery method (deposit type). Methods for determining quantification parameters including seam thickness, areal extent and bulk density are outlined for each geology/deposit category. Within each geology/deposit category, coal resources are further divided, based on their assurance of existence, into measured, indicated, inferred, and speculative subdivisions, and according to their feasibility of exploitation, into immediate and future interest subdivisions. Coal reserves within each geology/deposit cateogry are subdivided according to whether they are within or outside active mining areas, and may be reported on inplace, recoverable and saleable bases.

Book An Assessment of the Potential for Coal derived Syncrudes in Canada

Download or read book An Assessment of the Potential for Coal derived Syncrudes in Canada written by K. Morgan Macrae and published by Calgary : Canadian Energy Research Institute. This book was released on 1988 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the context of Canada's future energy demand and declining conventional crude oil production, this report examines recent advances in coal liquids technology and assesses the potential role of coal-derived synthetic fuels in the evolving energy technology mix. The model used in this study allocates, on an optimal basis, all the relevant Canadian energy resources - conventional and frontier crude oil, natural gas, bitumen, and coal - among the potentially available technologies and also over time. The supply cost analysis, production and on-stream development scenarios presented for upgraders, mined oil sands plants and coal liquids facilities are based on a complete re-assessment of the potential costs of all of the major energy supply options, measured against a re-evaluation of the Institute's CREED model and a linear programming model developed by the Alberta Research Council. A detailed evaluation, undertaken by the MITRE Corp. in the U.S., of recent advances in direct coal liquefaction together with a study published by the Electric Power Research Institute on coal/oil co-processing, formed the basis of the state-of-the-art coal liquids technology.
