This book was released on 2014-01-17 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today we are examining safe havens in Syria and Iran from which al-Qaeda could target the homeland, the relationship between al-Qaeda and Iran, the threat to the United States from foreign jihadis in Syria, and how Syrian instability may impact al-Qaeda's capabilities. There is much we don't know about the relationship between Iran and al-Qaeda. Since 2001 some senior leaders on al-Qaeda's management council have resided in Iran. Al-Qaeda uses Iran as facilitation, finance, and transport hub. Greatly adding to our concerns are the following facts. Al-Qaeda in Syria, also known as the Nusra Front, is an outgrowth of al-Qaeda's vicious Iraqi affiliate. It is responsible for the vast majority of suicide attacks in Syria. Among the several thousand members of the Nusra Front are, according to unclassified sources, a large number of foreign jihadis with Belgian, Dutch, Danish, Dutch-British, Danish, Dutch, German, Finnish, French, or Swedish citizenship or residency. These foreign fighters will likely undergo further Islamist radicalization as they receive terror training and gain combat experience before returning home to the West.

Book The Global War on Terrorism

Download or read book The Global War on Terrorism written by John Davis and published by Nova Biomedical Books. This book was released on 2004 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The signal events opening the global war on terrorism were the attacks of September 11. The world media began to focus on one of the terrorist groups, Al-Qaeda, a well-funded terrorist organisation headquartered in Afghanistan or Pakistan with offshoots in many countries. America has turned out to be the primary target of Al-Qaeda. America's first response was the attack on Afghanistan and the establishing of a puppet government. Next America attacked Iraq under the guise of a response to terrorism although no connection has been proven or even alleged except by hardcore neocons aligned with certain elements in the Washington power establishment. This new book pierces the veil of misinformation with frank assessments of the progress or lack thereof of the war on terrorism. Contents: Introduction; Homeland Security form Clinton to Bush: Assessment; United States Homeland Security in the Information Age: Dealing with the Threat of Cyberterrorism; Presidential War Powers and the War on Terrorism: Are We Destined to Repeat Our Mistakes?; International Law and the War on Terrorism; The Evolution of American Grand Strategy and the War on Terrorism: Clinton and Bush Perspectives; Assess

Book excerpt: How did Al Qaeda grow from a guerilla-insurgent force initially based in South Asia in to a global terrorist organization capable of striking worldwide? Satan in Flames explores how - in less than four years after initially meeting with representatives of Iran in Sudan - Al Qaeda would be capable of mounting terror attacks based on a template initially perfected by Iran's notorious terrorist group, Lebanese Hezbollah.Using open sources fully available to anyone, authors Dr. Abdalla Altayer and James S Moore demonstrate Tehran's direct involvement in every Al Qaeda attack throughout the 1990s beginning in Islamabad, Riyadh, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Aden, and September 11. The role Iran played in aiding Al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab Al Zarqawi is discussed in detail, along with the strategic importance that Tehran's long-standing ally, Syria, played in the violent and terror-plagued Iraqi insurgency and subsequent Civil War. Satan in Flames also covers the Al Qaeda Iran network as it exists to this very day including listing the key individuals who have resided inside Iran since the mid-2000s and in some cases earlier. JAMES S. MOORE is a Washington, D.C.-area based consultant working on European, Middle East, and Arabian Gulf affairs. ABDALLA ALTAYER has a diverse background in public service for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia along with working in education, media, journalism, and research analysis fields.

Book The Great Power Competition Volume 4

Download or read book The Great Power Competition Volume 4 written by Adib Farhadi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-02 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lessons Learned from Afghanistan: America’s Longest War examines the lessons of how America’s “longest war” came to an ignominious end with staggering consequences for the United States and the Afghan nation. Afghanistan today faces an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, looming threat of a civil war and a resurgence of violent extremism organizations similar to pre-9/11. As the U.S. enters a new era in the strategic geopolitical Great Power Competition, an analysis of the original mission intent, shifting policy and strategic objectives, and ineffective implementation of security, political and economic programs reveal critical lessons and questions such as: What led to the “strategic failure” of the U.S. in Afghanistan? What decisions resulted in the present-day humanitarian, civil, and political crises in Afghanistan? Were these consequences in fact avoidable? Was there an alternative approach that could have maintained the hard-fought gains of the last two decades, and better demonstrated America's standing as a defender of global human rights? Lessons Learned from Afghanistan: America’s Longest War further explores lessons of the past negotiations between the United States, Taliban, and former U.S. backed Afghan government to suggest alternative pathways that honor the original intent of the mission and meet present-day obligations to an Afghan nation in crisis.
