Book excerpt: Annotation Asphalt Mix Design and Construction: Past, Present, and Future is a special publication focusing on the history, development, trends, and evolution of hot mix asphalt (HMA) design and pavement construction. This committee report contains four papers that were presented at a special technical session, "Evaluation of Bituminous Materials Mix-Design & Superpave," of the Conference to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of ASCE in Washington, D.C. on November 3, 2002. These papers discuss bituminous materials in mix-design, the future of asphalt pavements, modified asphalt binders, and quality control and assurance. This report offers a historical perspective into the field of asphalt design and construction. It will benefit consulting engineers, contractors, government officials and engineers at various levels, and university students, educators, and researchers.

Book Principles of Construction of Hot mix Asphalt Pavements

Download or read book Principles of Construction of Hot mix Asphalt Pavements written by Asphalt Institute and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The manual is intended to provide information for the quality control of hot-mix asphalt pavements. Although emphasis is placed on the duties and responsibilities of asphalt inspectors, good quality control procedures must also involve other personnel who should understand quality control procedures and efficient plant and paving practices. The manual also details all aspects of hot-mix asphalt pavement construction from the initial acceptance of the aggregate and asphalt to the laying and compaction.

Book Asphalt Pavements

    Book Details:
  • Author : Patrick Lavin
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2003-09-02
  • ISBN : 0203453298
  • Pages : 463 pages

Download or read book Asphalt Pavements written by Patrick Lavin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asphalt Pavements provides the know-how behind the design, production and maintenance of asphalt pavements and parking lots. Incorporating the latest technology, this book is the first to focus primarily on the design, production and maintenance of low-volume roads and parking areas. Special attention is given to determining the traffic capacity, required thickness and asphalt mixture type for parking applications. Topics covered include: material information such as binder properties, testing grading and selection; construction information such as mixing plant operation, proportioning, mixture placement and compaction; and design information such as thickness and mixture design methods and guidelines on applying these to highways, city streets and parking Areas. It is an essential practical guide aimed at those engineers and architects who are not directly involved in the asphalt industry, but who nonetheless need to have a good general knowledge of the subject. Asphalt Pavements provides a novice with enough information to completely design, construct and specify an asphalt pavement.

Book Sulphur Extended Asphalt SEA

Download or read book Sulphur Extended Asphalt SEA written by Bob M. Gallaway and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report deals with pavement mixture designs and construction operation of field trials on U.S. 69 north of Lufkin, Texas. The binders used in this field trial consisted of pure asphalt cement for the control sections and 30/70 weight percent of a sulphur/asphalt emulsion as the test binder. All elements of the structural (thickness) design were produced in pairs for comparison purposes with the exception of two thinner sections selected to possibly show distress in two or three years. Otherwise, the thickness designs used in the test sections were those specified by the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation in the conventional section of this highway. Preconstruction laboratory evaluations of mixture properties and field laboratory control measurements are included as a part of this report.
