Book Analysis of Nigeria s Nomadic Education Policy

Download or read book Analysis of Nigeria s Nomadic Education Policy written by Lantana Usman and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dilemma of female nomadic education within Nigeria s policies and politics inspired this study. The focus on nomadic Fulbe women questions the extent of their gains towards equal educational opportunities within developmental social policies such as education since the inception of the Nomadic Education policy in 1986. The purpose of the study was, within a gender lens, to investigate and provide insights into the implementation and outcomes of the education policy for the social and economic development of nomadic women and girls. Based on an ethnographic feminist approach, data for the study were collected at nine Fulbe encampments using interviews (focus and individual), observation, documentary sources, video and photographs. The data highlighted issues and information on the causes and course of the policy implementation from all the participants involved. First, the thematic analysis explored the role and expectations of policy makers, women and girls, teachers and the curriculum in relation to the relevance, expectations, implementation and outcomes of the policy. Then a policy analysis guided by traditional social and political policy approaches were undertaken.

Book The Education of Nomadic Peoples

Download or read book The Education of Nomadic Peoples written by Caroline Dyer and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2006-06-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Educational provision for nomadic peoples is a highly complex, as well as controversial and emotive, issue. For centuries, nomadic peoples educated their children by passing on from generation to generation the socio-cultural and economic knowledge required to pursue their traditional occupations. But over the last few decades, nomadic peoples have had to contend with rapid changes to their ways of life, often as a consequence of global patterns of development that are highly unsympathetic to spatially mobile groups. The need to provide modern education for nomadic groups is evident and urgent to all those concerned with achieving Education For All; yet how they can be included is highly controversial. This volume provides a series of international case studies, prefaced by a comprehensive literature review and concluding with an end note drawing themes together, that sets out key issues in relation to educational services for nomadic groups around the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lifelong Education for Adults: An International Handbook is the first work intended to offer international, encyclopedic coverage of research and studies in the whole field of adult education. With 127 articles written by international specialists, this work will be an invaluable reference source for all those who are engaged in educational activities for adults, either as full-time planners/administrators of educational programmes, or part-time adult educators. There are, for example, articles on education for work and for living, on population education, peace and environmental education, and on learning for personal development and role fulfilment. Conceptual frameworks, practical issues relating to instructional methods, counselling, curriculum and evaluation, and developments in distance learning, group learning, and adult learning are some of the topics discussed. Systems of adult education worldwide, as well as adult education processes and practices, are covered region by region. The problems and initiatives of the developing countries are given attention alongside those of advanced countries. The collection of articles assembled in this Handbook is unique in the range and depth of treatment given to the field of adult education. This volume will thus be of great interest to all engaged in educational activities for adults, in adult schools, community centres, institutions of higher education, as well as educationalists, planners, and decision-makers throughout the world who are involved in adult education at all levels.
