Avec cette étude, nous cherchons à comprendre comment ce concept est actuellement intégré dans les projets. Une approche de la législation française et des outils d’aide à l’aménagement durable, confrontée à l’étude des pratiques d’aménagement met en évidence qu’il existe, en France, un décalage entre la considération du développement durable dans les discours, les textes règlementaires, les écrits théoriques et la réalité des projets d’aménagements. Les mentalités ont globalement intégré le concept de développement durable et le concept est intégré dans les démarches d’aménagement de l’espace public. Mais sa prise en compte reste aléatoire et ne se fonde pas sur les approches exhaustives proposées par certaines méthodes. Les projets aboutissent ainsi à des aménagements qui n’abordent que partiellement le développement durable.Pour répondre à la demande en développement durable, il paraît donc important que les acteurs de l’aménagement de l’espace public changent leurs manières de travailler pour véritablement prendre en compte tous les aspects du développement durable dans les projets.
