Download or read book Le Marche written by Peter Greene and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-05-15 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Le Marche: an Insider's Guide will help you discover Italy's Marche, or Marches, region, the place to go if you want a taste of real Italy, an Italy still relatively untouched by the ravages of mass tourism. You'll find plenty of outstanding art and architecture, discover enchanting small towns off the beaten tourist trail, and see some of central Italy's most spectacular countryside. It has been written by British travel writer Peter Greene, who has lived and worked in the region for more than twenty years, and also runs the popular Marche Voyager website. It's designed to give an honest view of the beauty and variety on offer, and uses a concise but intelligent style. It assumes most visitors are here to relax, and offers just enough to inform, without swamping the reader with endless details.
Download or read book Senza Vestimenta The Literary Tradition of Trecento Song written by Lauren Jennings and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The metaphor of marriage often describes the relationship between poetry and music in both medieval and modern writing. While the troubadours stand out for their tendency to blur the distinction between speaking and singing, between poetry and song, a certain degree of semantic slippage extends into the realm of Italian literature through the use of genre names like canzone, sonetto, and ballata. Yet, paradoxically, scholars have traditionally identified a 'divorce' between music and poetry as the defining feature of early Italian lyric. Senza Vestimenta reintegrates poetic and musical traditions in late medieval Italy through a fresh evaluation of more than fifty literary sources transmitting Trecento song texts. These manuscripts have been long noted by musicologists, but until now they have been used to bolster rather than to debunk the notion that so-called 'poesia per musica' was relegated to the margins of poetic production. Jennings revises this view by exploring how scribes and readers interacted with song as a fundamentally interdisciplinary art form within a broad range of literary settings. Her study sheds light on the broader cultural world surrounding the reception of the Italian ars nova repertoire by uncovering new, diverse readers ranging from wealthy merchants to modest artisans.
Download or read book Italian Weights and Measures from the Middle Ages to the Nineteenth Century written by Ronald Edward Zupko and published by American Philosophical Society. This book was released on 1981 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike most metrological systems throughout W. Europe, the Italian developed during the Middle Ages (MA) & Early Modern era without any ref. to a commonly accepted set of nat.-ethnic standards. Italy, with its many kingdoms, duchies, communes, etc., was never able to attain any level of metrological standardization outside the confines of severely restricted, small, independent, political jurisdictions. Not until unification in 1871, were Italian weights & measures (W&M) given a totally nat. character. And it was the metric system, & not a conglomerate of units from the old, that finally accomplished the task. This book presents a quantitative compilation, synthesis, & analysis of the principal pre-metric W&M employed throughout Italy & in those areas controlled or influenced by Italy from the Later MA to the age of metrication in the later 19th cent. Tables.

Book excerpt: The essays in this collection consider specific examples and case studies of 'lost' classical cities from across the many Roman provinces in order to help understand why some 'failed' and were subsequently abandoned. Bringing together both established and rising international scholars to share views on and findings from excavations and surveys of 'failed' towns, this volume has much to offer scholars of Roman, late antique and early medieval archaeology, urban scholars and ancient historians.
Download or read book Surgical Treatment of Pancreatic Diseases written by Walter Siquini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-05-30 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pancreatic diseases are a crucial issue not only because of their epidemiological significance, and their anatomical and metabolic complexity, but also because of the different treatment options available and their implications for surgery. Due to the slow but steady increase in the incidence of pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, these diseases are today a real challenge for the surgeon. This volume presents the state of the art of surgery in the treatment of inflammatory and neoplastic pancreatic diseases, describing in detail the different approaches and their most relevant technical aspects. Also described are conventional and interventional radiology, operative endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasonography (which has recently acquired a diagnostic role), and adjuvant and neoadjuvant therapy for treatment or palliation: for only a multidisciplinary approach can produce a global vision, a winning strategy for the optimization of results. Along with the texts, all written by experts, the volume includes color images and drawings. It will prove itself a very useful tool in clinical practice.

Download or read book Documenti di trasporto internazionali e doganali written by Renzo Pravisano and published by IPSOA. This book was released on 2010-11-05 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
