I don't know of anyone I have shared this book with who has not been touched and encouraged by it.”REV. FIDEL PATRON, Pastor, Gibraltar"Yes!—I read the book! Book Ascending the Heights

Download or read book Ascending the Heights written by John Mack and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the sixth century, a monk named John wrote a book outlining the stages of the spiritual life. He based his entire work on the image of the ladder of thirty rungs, stretching from earth to heaven. Each rung described a step in the pursuit of virtue and the spiritual life. Since it was first written, The Ladder of Divine Ascent has been an essential formation of Orthodox monasticism, and a mainstay of Orthodox ascetic spirituality. But it is not just for monks and nuns. This book is written to help those in a non-monastic setting, with "ordinary lives" to understand how to apply the Ladder. Each chapter contains many direct quotes from St. John's writings, in addition to commentary on St. John's words. This book, therefore, should be used as a primer to the Ladder as a helpful tool for ascending the spiritual heights.

DON'T SAY ANOTHER PRAYER UNTIL YOU READ THIS BIBLICAL GUIDE! - When you call on God you don't want to just throw up words towards heaven not knowing if God will answer your prayer or even hear you at all. When you pray, you want Gods attention; and have confidence that He will answer your prayer and help with your present need... The THREE LEVELS OF PRAYER is a complete guide book of all the biblical steps needed for a DYNAMIC and EFFECTUAL prayer life; by presenting a concise interpretation of Old and New Testament scriptures that reveals the 'process' by which a believer is 'drawn' into the 'presence' of God, and the 'pattern' unveiled by Jesus by which we are to pray, and make intercession through the 'progression' of our 'partnering' with 'Jesus Christ', the 'Holy Spirit' and 'God' in order to have the 'privilege' of obtaining direct access to the 'Throne of God' where one can find 'grace', 'favor' and 'intimate fellowship' with the Lord. >B.L.A.S.T.- Bible Learning and Sharing Together

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Here is a no-nonsense theologian who goes for the jugular. In Forsyth's company we are aware of both the glory and the gravity of what we are doing when we go to our knees in prayer." -Eugene H. Peterson P. T. Forsyth is sometimes described as an English pre-cursor to Karl Barth. He was born in 1848 to a Scottish family of humble origins and later in life attended Aberdeen University, where he graduated with first-class honours in classical literature in 1869. In 1876 he was ordained and called to minister in Shipley, Yorkshire. In his early ministry in the Congregational Church, Forsyth fought orthodoxy and sought for the right to rethink Christian theology and pursue liberal thought. In 1878, however, Forsyth experienced a conversion from, in his own words, "being a Christian to being a believer, from a lover of love to an object of grace." A profound awareness of pastoral responsibility was awakened which radically altered the the course of his ministry. His conversion thrust him from the leadership of liberalism to a recovery of the theology of grace. Quickly, he became one of the better-known figures in British Nonconformity. In 1894, he received a call to Emmanuel College in Cambridge, where he preached his famous sermon, "Holy Father" in 1896. In 1901, he accepted a position as principal of Hackney Theological College, London where he remained until he died in 1921. Over his lifetime Forsyth published 25 books and more than 260 articles. He is often credited with recovering for his generation the reality and true dimensions of the grace of God.
