Book Biotechnology of Anti diabetic Medicinal Plants

Download or read book Biotechnology of Anti diabetic Medicinal Plants written by Saikat Gantait and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-13 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a unique overview of insights on the genetic basis of anti-diabetic activity, chemistry, physiology, biotechnology, mode-of-action, as well as cellular mechanisms of anti-diabetic secondary metabolites from medicinal plants. The World Health Organization estimated that 80% of the populations of developing countries rely on traditional medicines, mostly plant drugs, for their primary health care needs. There is an increasing demand for medicinal plants having anti-diabetic potential in both developing and developed countries. The expanding trade in medicinal plants has serious implications on the survival of several plant species, with many under threat to become extinct. This book describes various approaches to conserve these genetic resources. It discusses the whole spectrum of biotechnological tools from micro-propagation for large-scale multiplication, cell-culture techniques to the biosynthesis and enhancement of pharmaceutical compounds in the plants. It also discusses the genetic transformation as well as short- to long-term conservation of plant genetic resources via synthetic seed production and cryopreservation, respectively. The book is enriched with expert contributions from across the globe. This reference book is useful for researchers in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries, medicinal chemists, biochemists, botanists, molecular biologists, academicians, students as well as diabetic patients, traditional medicine practitioners, scientists in medicinal and aromatic plants, Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and other traditional medical practitioners.

The tournament is an event in which all females of the realm between the ages of seventeen and nineteen can enter for the chance to participate from each of Trilleia’s six origins; Blesslings, Starlings, Firelings, Curselings, Treelings, and Sunlings. They compete against each other in the hopes of winning the Crown Prince’s affections by hard work, dedication, compassion and various other tests, to become the new Queen of Trilleia. Legend has no interest in becoming a queen. She only wishes to be in the tournament long enough to secure gold for her and her sister, as well as showing the people of Trilleia that she and her sister are NOT their parents. However, when she meets the crowned prince...and his brother...conflicts arise, feelings emerge, and new friendships are formed. Legend’s goals become more complicated than she imagined.

Book A Peculiar Fate

    Book Details:
  • Author : Peter Fenves
  • Publisher : Cornell University Press
  • Release : 2019-07-15
  • ISBN : 1501734520
  • Pages : 328 pages

Download or read book A Peculiar Fate written by Peter Fenves and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter Fenves here investigates Kant's ongoing effort to bring metaphysical and strictly historical concepts of the world together in his presentation of world-history. Fenves argues that, far from being a mere illustration of his metaphysical principles, Kant's attempt to present history in its entirety played a vital role in the transformation of his concept of philosophy. A Peculiar Fate demonstrates for the first time how Kant's concern with history motivates and gives shape to his "discovery" that a systematic philosophical inquiry must rest on human freedom.

Book Fate in Film

    Book Details:
  • Author : Thomas M. Puhr
  • Publisher : Columbia University Press
  • Release : 2022-10-18
  • ISBN : 023155527X
  • Pages : 85 pages

Download or read book Fate in Film written by Thomas M. Puhr and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2022-10-18 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The course of events is predetermined and cannot be changed. Forces beyond our control—or even our comprehension—shape our fates. Such is the deterministic worldview embedded in a wide swath of contemporary cinema, from arthouse experiments to popular genre films, through both thematic concerns and narrative structures. These films, especially the recent spate of “elevated” science fiction and horror, tap into this deep-seated anxiety by focusing on characters who ultimately fail to transcend the patterns and structures that define them. Thomas M. Puhr identifies and analyzes the ways that cinema has dealt with the tension between fate and free will, from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining to Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. He examines films that express deterministic ideas, including circular narratives of stasis or confinement and fatalistic portraits of external forces dictating characters’ lives. Puhr considers determinism at the levels of the individual, the family, and society, reading films in which characters are trapped by past or alternate selves, the burdens of family histories, or oppressive social structures. He explores how films such as Joel and Ethan Coen’s Inside Llewyn Davis, Ari Aster’s Hereditary, Jordan Peele’s Us, and Lucrecia Martel’s Zama confront the limits of human agency. Puhr relates deterministic themes to the nature of moviegoing: In denying characters any ability to choose alternative paths, these films mirror how viewers themselves can only sit and watch. Recasting the works of some of today’s most compelling directors, Fate in Film is an innovative critical account of an unrecognized yet crucial aspect of contemporary cinema.

Book The Fate of the West

Download or read book The Fate of the West written by Bill Emmott and published by Profile Books. This book was released on 2017-04-27 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When faced with global instability and economic uncertainty, it is tempting for states to react by closing borders, hoarding wealth and solidifying power. We have seen it at various times in Japan, France and Italy and now it is infecting much of Europe and America, as the vote for Brexit in the UK has vividly shown. This insularity, together with increased inequality of income and wealth, threatens the future role of the West as a font of stability, prosperity and security. Part of the problem is that the principles of liberal democracy upon which the success of the West has been built have been suborned, with special interest groups such as bankers accruing too much power and too great a share of the economic cake. So how is this threat to be countered? States such as Sweden in the 1990s, California at different times or Britain under Thatcher all halted stagnation by clearing away the powers of interest groups and restoring their societies' ability to evolve. To survive, the West needs to be porous, open and flexible. From reinventing welfare systems to redefining the working age, from reimagining education to embracing automation, Emmott lays out the changes the West must make to revive itself in the moment and avoid a deathly rigid future.
