Nel far questo l’autore intreccia intimamente, poggiando su basi documentarie rigorose, storia dell’arte, storia politica e storia culturale; e dà conto dell’importanza degli studi di Renzo De Felice e scuola per la storia dell’arte. Vengono riprese così, da punti di vista storiografici e critici insieme, le fila di un dialogo interrotto tra discipline.
