The results are important alike for the integrity of faith, for scientific advance and for the attainment of creative cultural unity in society. Book Arts Based Methods for Decolonising Participatory Research

Download or read book Arts Based Methods for Decolonising Participatory Research written by Tiina Seppälä and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-04-18 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an effort to challenge the ways in which colonial power relations and Eurocentric knowledges are reproduced in participatory research, this book explores whether and how it is possible to use arts-based methods for creating more horizontal and democratic research practices. In discussing both the transformative potential and limitations of arts-based methods, the book asks: What can arts-based methods contribute to decolonising participatory research and its processes and practices? The book takes part in ongoing debates related to the need to decolonise research, and investigates practical contributions of arts-based methods in the practice-led research domain. Further, it discusses the role of artistic research in depth, locating it in a decolonising context. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, design, fine arts, service design, social sciences and development studies.

Book Rap Music and the Youth in Malawi

Download or read book Rap Music and the Youth in Malawi written by Ken Lipenga Jr. and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-29 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rap Music and the Youth in Malawi is one of the first book-length studies of Malawian hip hop. It studies the language and content of contemporary Malawian hip hop as a window onto the country's youth culture as Malawian young people negotiate what scholar Alcinda Honwana calls 'waithood,' or the condition, common among Malawian youth, of lacking opportunities to advance from a situation of dependence and being stuck in a state of relative childhood. The book argues that rap music made by Malawian youth music speaks of – and represents, through its very agency – their need to break out of this stagnant state. After situating Malawian hip hop with respect to both other musical genres in the country and to the nation's language in culture, Rap Music and the Youth in Malawi shows how Malawian youth use rap music to create a sense of community, which then becomes a foothold from which they can do activities that get them out of waithood and into the adult world, such as getting involved in the music industry, realizing electoral power, or participating in activism about issues such as violence against people with albinism and the COVID-19 pandemic. Hip hop has been a crucial tool for Malawian youth to build the skills, identity, and agency necessary to exercise their economic, cultural, and civic independence.

Book Crossroads of Insolvency and Arbitration

Download or read book Crossroads of Insolvency and Arbitration written by Ishaan Madaan and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2022-06-09 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comparative Law Yearbook of International Business, Volume 43A Each year, a Special Issue of the Comparative Law Yearbook of International Business is published under the auspices of the Center for International Legal Studies. The 2022 Special Issue addresses the intersection of arbitration and insolvency. This junction has been made all the more topical and intense by the adverse effects of Covid-19 on a broad range of businesses’ finances and supply chains, and by the still growing recourse to arbitration (and other forms of alternative dispute resolution) to resolve business disputes. A diverse pool of contributors gives a broad range of perspectives from Europe (Italy, Lithuania, the United Kingdom), the Middle East (Palestine, UAE), Asia (India), Africa (Zimbabwe), North America (Canada) and public international law on several common issues posed when one or more parties to an arbitration (agreement) are faced with a financial crisis – or vice versa when an overindebted party is expected to resolve claims that it has or faces, not in State courts but before “private” adjudicators. This Special Issue is aimed at bringing to fore the multitude of issues that exist at the convergences of the domains—a step toward better understanding the intricacies and the complexities that arise in different jurisdictions, and how stakeholders react. To highlight just a few of the aspects addressed: the law to be applied by arbitral tribunals in regard to insolvency issues; insolvency arbitrations and tax claims; how the representatives of bankrupt entities may participate in international investment claims; avoidance of transactions and anti-suit injunctions; and the uneasy but unavoidable cohabitation of insolvency and arbitration in the Middle East and North Africa Region.

Book Historical Dictionary of Malawi

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of Malawi written by Owen J. M. Kalinga and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2012 with total page 599 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malawi, established as the British protectorate of Nyasaland in 1891, gained its independence in 1964 and moved immediately into three decades of one-party rule. Since the mid-1990s, however, the country has held multi-party elections, as directed by its constitution, and President Bingu wa Mutharika is currently serving his second term. The fourth edition of the Historical Dictionary of Malawi, now newly expanded and updated, covers a wide range of areas in Malawi history, including the rise and fall of state systems, religious and socio-political movements, the economy, environment, transportation, war, disease, and natural sciences. Author Owen J. M. Kalinga charts developments from pre-history to the post-Banda Malawi, from Tom Bokwito to James Sangala, and from the UMCA mission at Magomero to the second term of Bingu wa Mutharika's presidency, paying particular attention to the individuals, groups, communities, and forces that have molded this South African country. The dictionary itself contains over 1,000 cross-referenced entries on crucial aspects of Malawi history, and it is the most extensive single-volume reference work on Malawi available. In addition to the dictionary entries, Kalinga provides a chronology containing important dates and events and an informative bibliographical section organized by subject. The final part of the bibliography gives the reader a list of current and obsolete newspapers and periodicals related to Malawi, an ideal resource for further research. This newly updated edition is an excellent access point for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about Malawi.

Book Health on Delivery

Download or read book Health on Delivery written by Anat Rosenthal and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2004 Malawi began to offer antiretroviral therapy to anyone who needed it. This undertaking would have been ambitious for any nation, but it was unprecedented coming from one of the poorest countries in the world. Health on Delivery examines this introduction of state-provided antiretroviral therapy from an ethnographic perspective. Moving from World Health Organization boardrooms in Geneva to clinics held under trees in rural Malawi, it studies the patients, healthcare providers, and policy-makers involved, considering how the rollout has impacted their lives and professions. In doing so, it examines both the challenges and successes of an ambitious attempt to provide universal HIV treatment with limited money, infrastructure, and human resources. As well as an important case study, the book also offers an analytic framework to address the processes by which global policy is made and implemented. Engagingly written, Health on Delivery will be interesting reading for students and scholars of both anthropology and public health, as well as related disciplines such as geography, international politics and world development. It will also appeal to the general reader interested in global health policies and world development.
