Book Trace Analysis of Semiconductor Materials

Download or read book Trace Analysis of Semiconductor Materials written by J. Paul Cali and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trace Analysis of Semiconductor Materials is a guidebook concerned with procedures of ultra-trace analysis. This book discusses six distinct techniques of trace analysis. These techniques are the most common and can be applied to various problems compared to other methods. Each of the four chapters basically includes an introduction to the principles and general statements. The theoretical basis for the technique involved is then briefly discussed. Practical applications of the techniques and the different instrumentations are explained. Then, the applications to trace analysis as pertaining to semiconductor materials are discussed. Chapter 1 discusses radiochemical practice, the analysis of semiconductor materials, separation techniques, several qualitative radiochemical schemes, radiochemical purification procedures, and several earlier reported studies. Chapter 2 covers emission spectroscopy, including its potential for future applications. Discussions in Chapter 3 explain the benefits of each of the four mass spectrometric methods, namely, the isotope dilution method, complete thermal vaporization, vacuum spark technique, and the ion bombardment method. Chapter 4 focuses on the absorption, fluorescence, and polarographic methods used in general trace analysis, including examples of semiconductor material applications and other problems that result when certain impurities are introduced into the test sample. This monograph will be useful for researchers in ultra-trace analysis, nuclear physics, and analytical chemistry.

Book The Determination of Arsenic Antimony Selenium and Tellurium in Environmental Water Samples by Flameless Atomic Absorption

Download or read book The Determination of Arsenic Antimony Selenium and Tellurium in Environmental Water Samples by Flameless Atomic Absorption written by G. C. Kunselman and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method has been developed for the direct determination of arsenic, antimony, selenium, and tellurium in surface waters and industrial effluents using the graphite furnace. Optimization of instrumental variables is discussed. Representative inorganic acids enhanced the analytical signal of arsenic, antimony, and tellurium, and suppressed the response of selenium. The effect of alkali and alkaline earth elements, commonly present in environmental samples, on the determinations have been studied and their interferences documented. These investigations showed that for valid analytical results experimental variables must be closely controlled, and the method of standard additions is required. The results of the developed procedure were compared to the hydried generation technique for arsenic and selenium on real samples. Recoveries ranged from 90% to 110% at a concentration of 10 microg/l for individual metals.

Book Trace Elemental Analysis of Selenium and Antimony Using Hydride Generation Coupled to Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy

Download or read book Trace Elemental Analysis of Selenium and Antimony Using Hydride Generation Coupled to Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy written by Latresa J. Williamson and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detection of metalloids such as selenium and antimony in the environment is important for technological and health reasons. Selenium in trace amounts has biological importance and hydride generation is one of the most effective sample introduction techniques for analytical atomic spectroscopy measurements. Aqueous solutions of selenium and antimony are converted to a gaseous form via hydride generation and the gas is delivered to an atomizer for measurement. Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, LIBS, is the atomic emission spectroscopy method that is used in this research to measure the gaseous form of the analyte generated by the hydride approach. Analyte atoms are atomized and excited by a laser-produced plasma and the atomic emission is measured at an element-specific wavelength. Optimization of the instrument to obtain the maximum wavelength of emission was performed using a 10 ppm solution of each element. The optimized parameters were used to measure various concentrations of each element in solution ranging from 0 to 10 ppm. A calibration curve was generated using the wavelength to plot intensity as a function of concentration. A limit of detection, LOD, was determined using the data from the calibration curve. Additional research in this work included studying the characteristics and properties of laser produced-plasmas and determining how this information can be utilized in further studies of trace analysis of selenium and antimony.
