Book excerpt: This publication, Army Techniques Publication ATP 4-13 Army Expeditionary Intermodal Operations April 2014, introduces Army expeditionary intermodal operations as a capability and describes the roles, responsibilities, and command relationships for planning, executing, and supporting Army terminal operations in a theater. This publication applies to the range of military operations and supports Army doctrine publication (ADP) 3-0 and ADP 4-0. The principle audience for ATP 4-13 is all members of the profession of arms. Commanders and staffs of Army headquarters serving as joint task force or multinational headquarters should also refer to applicable joint or multinational doctrine concerning the range of military operations and joint or multinational forces. Trainers and educators throughout the Army will also use this manual. ATP 4-13, Army Expeditionary Intermodal Operations replaces FM 55-60, Army Terminal Operations. This manual provides the framework for commanders and their staff at all levels on the employment of Army expeditionary intermodal capability to include aerial/sea port operations. The conversion and update of this manual is in compliance with the Army's Doctrine 2015 initiative, aligns Army terminal operations roles and responsibilities with the current force structure, and incorporate lessons learned from operations and significant events since publishing of FM 55-60. The fundamentals of Army Expeditionary Intermodal Operations and general terminal operation techniques tie together various transportation competencies to enhance deployment, redeployment, and distribution operations for the end-to-end movement of personnel, equipment, or forces. ATP 4-13 uses the theater environment as the focus of organizations, events and activities that are integral to plan and execute terminal operations that enables expeditionary intermodal operations. ATP 4-13 contains six chapters: Chapter 1 discusses intermodal operations and its components, introduces Army expeditionary intermodal operations as a capability. Chapter 2 describes the types of terminals and ports. It discusses planning considerations and organizational roles and responsibilities and port opening. Chapter 3 discusses air terminal operations, port opening and organizations involved in air terminal operations. It further discusses the role of the joint task force-port opening unit and its organizational structure. Included in this chapter are graphics of a notional lay out of an air terminal and organizational structure / chart of units involved in air terminal operations. Chapter 4 discusses water terminal and port operations and the roles and responsibilities of units involved that includes the Transportation Brigade Expeditionary. It further discusses the Rapid port opening element of the joint task force - port opening, other units and organizational structure that supports it. Further the process of transitioning from port operations to port management is discussed. Chapter 5 describes the different types and functions of land terminal operations and the organizations that support them. Specifically, this chapter includes a description of the centralized receiving and shipping point terminal. Chapter 6 discusses logistics over-the-shore operations and units that support it.

Download or read book Convoy Ambush Case Studies written by Richard E. Killblane and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the enemy adopts a policy to attack convoys, truck drivers become front line troops. Convoy commanders must then become tacticians. How to study war? The student of tactics studies previous fights and mentally places himself in the position of the participants. Knowing what they knew, how would he have reacted? In hind sight, what was the best course of action, remembering that there is no one perfect solution? Any number of actions would have succeeded. The tactician must learn what would have worked best for him. For this reason, I have pulled together all the examples of convoy ambushes. The 20th century, Vietnam War, and current war in Iraq provide a wealth of examples of convoy ambushes from which to study. Unfortunately, the US Army did not record many good accounts of ambushes during the Vietnam War. Much of what is presented in this text is based upon oral interviews of the participants, sometimes backed by official record, citations or reports. For this reason, some of the ambush case studies present only the perspective of a crew member of a gun truck or the convoy commander. Since this academic study works best when one mentally takes the place of one of the participants, this view of the ambush serves a useful purpose. After my own review of the ambushes, I have drawn my own conclusion as to what principles apply to convoy ambushes.

Why buy a book you can download for free? We print the paperback book so you don't have to. First you gotta find a good clean (legible) copy and make sure it's the latest version (not always easy). Some documents found on the web are missing some pages or the image quality is so poor, they are difficult to read. If you find a good copy, you could print it using a network printer you share with 100 other people (typically its either out of paper or toner). If it's just a 10-page document, no problem, but if it's 250-pages, you will need to punch 3 holes in all those pages and put it in a 3-ring binder. Takes at least an hour. It's much more cost-effective to just order the bound paperback from Amazon.com This book includes original commentary which is copyright material. Note that government documents are in the public domain. We print these paperbacks as a service so you don't have to. The books are compact, tightly-bound paperback, full-size (8 1/2 by 11 inches), with large text and glossy covers. 4th Watch Publishing Co. is a HUBZONE SDVOSB. https: //usgovpub.com

Download or read book Army Techniques Publication Atp 4 90 Brigade Support Battalion April 2014 written by United States Army and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-08-24 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication, Army Techniques Publication ATP 4-90 Brigade Support Battalion April 2014, describes the brigade support battalion (BSB) role, organization and operations in support of a brigade combat team (BCT) or support brigade. ATP 4-90 is a revision of FM 4-90, Brigade Support Battalion, last published in 2010. This ATP was written for commanders, staffs and Soldiers assigned to a brigade support battalion, the brigade combat team and the support brigades. It provides relevant information to echelon above brigade sustainment organizations. ATP 4-90 provides information on the role and functions of each organization within the BSB. ATP 4-90 clarifies existing BSB doctrine. The intent is to frame the BSB in the context of its role within its supported brigade as opposed to its role within the sustainment system. This is accomplished by eliminating discussion about modular logistics and focusing on BSB operations. The updates to ATP 4-90 account for mission command philosophy, emerging Army vision and implementation of Global Combat Support System-Army Field/Tactical (GCSS-Army (F/T). Language and content of the manual are consistent with current doctrine guidelines. This is primarily accomplished by removing functional details from the chapters describing the subordinate companies and referring the reader to the appropriate functional ATP. Organization graphics are updated with known organizational changes and GCSS-Army (F/T) operations are annotated where appropriate. The aviation support battalion's role, organization and operations are consolidated into a single chapter. All text related to mission command warfighting functions and log reporting is consolidated into a single chapter which includes an expanded section on mission command systems and command post (CP) operations. There are three appendices: an echelon of support appendix, a brigade support area (BSA) appendix and a current Stryker brigade combat team appendix. Army Techniques Publication ATP 4-90 Brigade Support Battalion April 2014 contains eight chapters: Chapter 1 includes the role of the BSB, how the BSB supports the sustainment warfighting function and decisive action tasks. The chapter also includes BSB concept of support and descriptions of echelon above brigade units that would support the BSB and the BSB supported brigades. Chapter 2 lists the battalions' capabilities and BSB headquarters and staff organization. Of note are the duties of specific staff elements and how they integrate with the supported brigade's staff. There is also a section on how the BSB fits within its supported brigade. Section four includes the battlefield surveillance brigade's (BFSB) brigade support company role, organization and operations. Chapter 3 provides an overview of the distribution company and includes recent capability updates. Chapter 4 is about the field maintenance company. Chapter 5 describes the brigade support medical company (BSMC) and includes the BSMC's role, organization graphic and BSMC operations. Chapter 6 provides the role, organization and operations of the aviation support battalion (ASB). The ASB is both structured differently and operates differently from the BSB. Chapter 7 is about the forward support company (FSC). The chapter identifies the role of the FSC, the FSC organization and describes what the FSC does. The chapter also includes a discussion of the FSC commander's role and command relationship between the FSC, the BSB and the supported battalion. Chapter 8 is mission command and logistic reporting. The content includes operations process, command post operations, mission command systems available to accomplish logistic reporting and a section on logistic reporting.
