Future books will build off these principles, and show you many other workout programs and systems that will help you to build muscle and strength. Never waste a set. That is what this book is about. Download or read book Rethinking Sitting written by Peter Opsvik and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2009-05-12 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Scandinavian furniture designer offers insight into his thinking about sitting and explains the philosophy that informs his pioneering chairs. For millions of years humans have led physically active lives. In recent centuries, however, industrialization has fostered passivity and the growing predominance of the sitting posture for more and more people. Increasingly, chairs and furniture for sitting have become standard pieces of equipment in the workplace, institutions, and private homes. These sitting devices were designed according to the established standard of the chair, based on the accepted western manner of sitting. In Rethinking Sitting, Scandinavian industrial designer Peter Opsvik addresses the issue of whether this is the only, and functionally best, design for the human body. When the various authorities on ergonomics promote their one and only “correct” sitting posture, he says all of them are right: Every recommended sitting posture is good. Opsvik sees it as his task to design chairs that allow as many different sitting postures as possible and make it easy to move and change frequently between positions. In this beautifully illustrated reference Opsvik offers insight into his thinking on the subject of sitting and explains the philosophy that informs his furniture designs. Rethinking Sitting contains important information for everyone who is interested, for professional, educational, or personal reasons, in sitting solutions.

Book The Profession of Arms

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sir John Hackett
  • Publisher : MacMillan Publishing Company
  • Release : 1983
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 248 pages

Download or read book The Profession of Arms written by Sir John Hackett and published by MacMillan Publishing Company. This book was released on 1983 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I read this book on the recommendation from a fellow officer in order to gain a better historical perspective of the military profession. This book develops the lineage from Armies of the ancient world to today's modern Armies in a rather concise and insightful manner. Sir John Hackett focuses a lot on the relationship between the military forces and the countries they represent on the battlefield. He also offers some interesting opinions about training future leaders in the Armed Services based on his vast military experience and career. I thoroughly enjoyed this book (it has many interesting photos and prints throughout the text), although it is written from a European (the author is British) perspective. The author does devote some time to the US Army, but his main focus is the European military system. Therefore, if you are looking for a book about how the American Army has changed over time, I do not recommend this one. On the other hand, I do recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn more about how the profession of arms has developed over time. It would make a fine addition to your military history library if you have one, or serve as a great first addition, if you are thinking of starting one. -- website.

A shooter who participates in a Division Match, while recognized as a proficient shooter, has also been selected to become a representative and participant in the Marine Corps Competition in Arms Program (CIAP). Throughout its history, this program and the events conducted within the program all stress the same principles: the development of proficient and combat-ready Marines through the practice and application of marksmanship fundamentals and shooting techniques. Success in requalification, combat, and competition rely on the shooter's ability to apply what he has learned in these environments. The competitive shooter's goal over the coming weeks will ultimately be to win the match, but the skills and knowledge that he receives will serve him and his fellow Marines long after the competition ends and the medals are awarded. The CIAP's mission to develop and perpetuate effective shooters is the foundation on which each shooter in the Marine Corps may achieve success. 2. OVERVIEW.
