This book was released on 2015-02-01 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual provides guidance for the organization, planning, and conduct of the full range of military operations on urbanized terrain. This publication was prepared primarily for commanders, staffs, and subordinate leaders down to the squad and fire team level. It is written from a Marine air-ground task force perspective, with emphasis on the ground combat element as the most likely supported element in that environment. It provides the level of detailed information that supports the complexities of planning, preparing for, and executing small-unit combat operations on urbanized terrain. It also provides historical and environmental information that supports planning and training for combat in built-up areas

Book In the Middle of the Fight

Download or read book In the Middle of the Fight written by David Eugene Johnson and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2008 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of the performance of medium-armored forces across the range of military operations since World War I yields insights with significant implications for U.S. Army decisions about fielding these units in the future. The authors find that medium-armored forces fare poorly against competent, heavily armored opponents, and that the Stryker and Future Combat Systems will not fill the void created by the retirement of the M551 Sheridan.

Download or read book Days of Battle written by Norbert Számvéber and published by Helion and Company. This book was released on 2013-10-19 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of WWII military studies examines significant yet neglected clashes of German-Hungarian and Soviet armor north of the river Danube. In Days of Battle, Dr. Norbert Számvéber, chief of Hungary's military archives, examines armor combat operations in the southern territory of the historical Upper Hungary (part of Hungary between 1938 and 1945, at the present time now part of Slovakia) in three separate studies. The first is an account of the battle between the Ipoly and Garam rivers during the second half of December 1944, in which the élite Hungarian Division "Szent László" saw action for the first time. The second study examines the fierce tank battle of Komárom, fought between January 6th–22nd of 1945. This was an integral part of the Battle for Budapest, parallel in time with Operation Konrad. The third study describes the combat during the German Operation Südwind in February 1945, as well as the Soviet attack launched in the direction of Bratislava in March 1945. Based on files and documentation from German, Hungarian and Soviet sources, Dr. Számvéber’s authoritative text is supported by photographs and color battle maps.

Book Marines Under Armor

  • Author : Kenneth Estes
  • Publisher : Naval Institute Press
  • Release : 2013-04-11
  • ISBN : 1612513530

Download or read book Marines Under Armor written by Kenneth Estes and published by Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2013-04-11 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this story of men, machines and missions, Kenneth Estes tells how the U.S. Marine Corps came to acquire the armored fighting vehicle and what it tried to do with it. The longtime Marine tank officer and noted military historian offers an insider's view of the Corps's acquisition and use of armored fighting vehicles over the course of several generations, a view that illustrates the characteristics of the Corps as a military institution and of the men who have guided its development. His book examines the planning, acquisition, and employment of tanks, amphibian tractors, and armored cars and explores the ideas that led to the fielding of these weapons systems along with the doctrines and tactics intended for them, and their actual use in combat. Drawing on archival resources previously untouched by researchers and interviews of both past and serving crewmen, Estes presents a unique and unheralded story that is filled with new information and analysis of the armored vehicles, their leaders, and the men who drove these steel chariots into battle. Such authoritative detail and documentation of the decisions to acquire, develop, and organize armored units in the U.S. Marine Corps assures the book's acknowledgement as a definitive reference.

Book Distributed Training of Armor Officers

Download or read book Distributed Training of Armor Officers written by John D. Winkler and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the Armor Officer Advanced Course (AOAC) as a case study, this report identifies alternative approaches for individual training and analyzes their cost implications. The study shows that 5 percent of the material in the AOAC is unrelated to job performance and could be considered for elimination from resident training. The study also finds that distributed training can provide some savings; however, its potential is limited because the amount of the distributable material is smaller than initial expectations-on the order of 25 percent, not the 40 to 60 percent called for in initial planning. Cost savings from distributed training depend on the mix of training media and technologies to conduct it (the higher tech the mix, the greater the start-up costs and the smaller the recurring savings) and on whether sufficient capacity exists to conduct it at soldiers' home stations. Ultimately, the study argues for a modest role for distributed training, involving in-place technologies such as paper, videotape, and personal computers, and only as much material as can be absorbed by soldiers and field units without interfering with daily operations and readiness.

Book Armored Warfare In The Jungle Environment

Download or read book Armored Warfare In The Jungle Environment written by Major Kevin S. Wimmer and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines armored warfare in a jungle environment. The focus is to determine if there is a role for ground mounted armored forces in jungle warfare. This study explains how armor was used in past jungle conflicts and examines current doctrine and applicability of employment of armor in the jungle. The first portion of the research focuses on discerning how armor was used in past jungle conflicts. The Pacific campaign of World War II and the Vietnam War are examined to determine the historical role of armor in a jungle environment. Early employment of armor in these two conflicts is examined to determine the criteria for use of armored forces in the jungle and examines the tactics, techniques, and procedures that were developed during these conflicts. The second portion of this study focuses on the feasibility of current employment of armor in a jungle environment. Current Army and Marine armored doctrine is examined and interviews are conducted to determine if current armored systems could and should be employed in jungle warfare. Additionally, officers from foreign countries are interviewed to determine how armored forces are employed in the jungle areas of their countries.

Book Armor Attacks The Tank Platoon

Download or read book Armor Attacks The Tank Platoon written by John F. Antal and published by Casemate. This book was released on 2020-08-31 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Extremely clever . . . part tactical decision game (TDG), part combat adventure page turner, and part The Defense of Duffer’s Drift.” —Capt. Randall P. Newman, USMC In this unique, interactive story, you are the leader of a U.S. Army M1 Abrams tank platoon. Throughout the text, you’ll have an opportunity to make life-or-death decisions, and the events that unfold will be dictated by the choices you make. As you progress through the book, you’ll learn important tactical and operational lessons. Whether or not you are—or want to be—a tank platoon leader, you’ll find this book both highly entertaining and instructive. There are two operations to survive—an assault and a counter-reconnaissance mission. In each you must bring your knowledge and judgment to bear on the scenario in order to achieve the objective. If you choose wrong, defeat and even death may be your fate. If you succeed, you can savor the taste of victory and live to fight another day. The scenarios are highly realistic, and there are maps and appendices with detailed specifications of the hardware involved to help you make informed decisions. Written before Operation Desert Storm and published in 1991, Armor Attacks may feature military technology that’s dated by today’s standards—but the need for human leadership and effective, rapid decision-making has not changed. Armor Attacks was recognized as an invaluable teaching tool by United States Military Academy, West Point and was used to teach cadets the essential skills of leadership, decision-making, and tactics—a decade of USMA leaders trained with this book. To supplement the original text, this new edition includes the West Point instructor reference guide, which explains and amplifies the teaching points of each scenario encountered.
