Book Differential Geometric Methods in Theoretical Physics

Download or read book Differential Geometric Methods in Theoretical Physics written by Ling-Lie Chau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 795 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After several decades of reduced contact, the interaction between physicists and mathematicians in the front-line research of both fields recently became deep and fruit ful again. Many of the leading specialists of both fields became involved in this devel opment. This process even led to the discovery of previously unsuspected connections between various subfields of physics and mathematics. In mathematics this concerns in particular knots von Neumann algebras, Kac-Moody algebras, integrable non-linear partial differential equations, and differential geometry in low dimensions, most im portantly in three and four dimensional spaces. In physics it concerns gravity, string theory, integrable classical and quantum field theories, solitons and the statistical me chanics of surfaces. New discoveries in these fields are made at a rapid pace. This conference brought together active researchers in these areas, reporting their results and discussing with other participants to further develop thoughts in future new directions. The conference was attended by SO participants from 15 nations. These proceedings document the program and the talks at the conference. This conference was preceded by a two-week summer school. Ten lecturers gave extended lectures on related topics. The proceedings of the school will also be published in the NATO-AS[ volume by Plenum. The Editors vii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS We would like to thank the many people who have made the conference a success. Furthermore, ·we appreciate the excellent talks. The active participation of everyone present made the conference lively and stimulating. All of this made our efforts worth while.

Book Twenty Years Of Bialowieza A Mathematical Anthology Aspects Of Differential Geometric Methods In Physics

Download or read book Twenty Years Of Bialowieza A Mathematical Anthology Aspects Of Differential Geometric Methods In Physics written by S Twareque Ali and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005-01-27 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume marks the twentieth anniversary of the Bialowieza series of meetings on Differential Geometric Methods in Physics; the anniversary meeting was held during July 1-7, 2001. The Bialowieza meetings, held every year during the first week of July, have now grown into an annual pilgrimage for an international group of physicists and mathematicians. The topics discussed at the meetings, while within the broad area of differential geometric methods in physics, have focused around quantization, coherent states, infinite dimensional systems, symplectic geometry, spectral theory and harmonic analysis. The present volume brings together a set of specially invited papers from leading experts in the various fields, who have contributed to these meetings and whose work represents a cross-section of the topics discussed. Consequently, rather than a proceedings volume, this book embodies the spirit of the Bialowieza workshops and reflects their scientific tenor, as a tribute to the completion of two decades of a shared scientific experience. This book will be of interest to researchers and graduate students working in the area of differential geometric methods in physics, as it gives interesting glimpses into the present state of the art from different points of view.

Book A History of Geometrical Methods

Download or read book A History of Geometrical Methods written by Julian Lowell Coolidge and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Full and authoritative, this history of the techniques for dealing with geometric questions begins with synthetic geometry and its origins in Babylonian and Egyptian mathematics; reviews the contributions of China, Japan, India, and Greece; and discusses the non-Euclidean geometries. Subsequent sections cover algebraic geometry, starting with the precursors and advancing to the great awakening with Descartes; and differential geometry, from the early work of Huygens and Newton to projective and absolute differential geometry. The author's emphasis on proofs and notations, his comparisons between older and newer methods, and his references to over 600 primary and secondary sources make this book an invaluable reference. 1940 edition.

Book Arithmetic of L functions

Download or read book Arithmetic of L functions written by Cristian Popescu and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall theme of the 2009 IAS/PCMI Graduate Summer School was connections between special values of $L$-functions and arithmetic, especially the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer Conjecture and Stark's Conjecture. These conjectures are introduced and discussed in depth, and progress made over the last 30 years is described. This volume contains the written versions of the graduate courses delivered at the summer school. It would be a suitable text for advanced graduate topics courses on the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer Conjecture and/or Stark's Conjecture. The book will also serve as a reference volume for experts in the field.

Book Effective Methods in Algebraic Geometry

Download or read book Effective Methods in Algebraic Geometry written by T. Mora and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposium "MEGA-90 - Effective Methods in Algebraic Geome try" was held in Castiglioncello (Livorno, Italy) in April 17-211990. The themes - we quote from the "Call for papers" - were the fol lowing: - Effective methods and complexity issues in commutative algebra, pro jective geometry, real geometry, algebraic number theory - Algebraic geometric methods in algebraic computing Contributions in related fields (computational aspects of group theory, differential algebra and geometry, algebraic and differential topology, etc.) were also welcome. The origin and the motivation of such a meeting, that is supposed to be the first of a series, deserves to be explained. The subject - the theory and the practice of computation in alge braic geometry and related domains from the mathematical viewpoin- has been one of the themes of the symposia organized by SIGSAM (the Special Interest Group for Symbolic and Algebraic Manipulation of the Association for Computing Machinery), SAME (Symbolic and Algebraic Manipulation in Europe), and AAECC (the semantics of the name is vary ing; an average meaning is "Applied Algebra and Error Correcting Codes").
