Book Areas of Learning Basic to Lifelong Education

Download or read book Areas of Learning Basic to Lifelong Education written by P. Lengrand and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-05-27 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of lifelong education brings to light aspects of education which go beyond the purely intellectual sphere into all dimensions of being. These dimensions assume great importance for individuals seeking to develop capacities which will enable them to cope successfully with the challenges they will confront throughout life and to participate constructively in the larger processes of development. The subjects covered include communication, corporal man, time, space, art, man as citizen, the ethical domain, technology and the scientific spirit, and from these papers emerges the unifying theme of the interrelationship between morality and technology. This relationship poses the vital question of how individuals should decide which of the new technologies that proliferate in contemporary society is likely to be beneficial to humankind and which destructive. The book is the result of a collective project undertaken by the Unesco Institute of Education (UIE). The approach adopted is new in two respects: first, each theme is treated in terms of learning, and second, each is related to the others in a global and transdisciplinary view of personal development. It is written by experts from various countries who are known internationally for their outstanding contributions to research into the problems of learning as a basis for lifelong education, and will be important reading for all those involved in the study and practice of lifelong education.

Book International Handbook of Lifelong Learning

Download or read book International Handbook of Lifelong Learning written by David N. Aspin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 859 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent changes in the world effected by the transformations of information technology, globalisation, and the move towards a knowledge economy over the last thirty years have been as radical and fundamental as the changes resulting from the invention of the wheel and the printing press. We are now living in a new age in which the demands are so complex, so multifarious and so rapidly changing that the only way in which we shall be able to survive them is by committing to a process of individual, communal, and global learning throughout the lifespan of all of us. A number of international bodies and agencies have taken cognisance of these transformations and the demands they impose upon societies and communities of the twenty-first century and have developed and articulated policies intended to enable all citizens of the world in the twenty-first century to face these challenges. It is now a declared policy of many governments and international agencies that the only vehicle for such preparation is `education, education, education', and that preparing for the knowledge economy and the learning society of the future has to be a lifelong undertaking, an investment in the future that is not restricted merely to the domain of economic advancement but also to those of social inclusion and personal growth. Realising this, policy-makers across the international arena are grappling with the need to move from systems that emphasise education and training to the radically more unworked construct of lifelong learning. In this volume the editors and authors analyse, criticise, and rework the ideas, principles, and theories underpinning policies and programs of lifelong learning, re-interpreting them in the light of examples of `best practice' found in a range of educating institutions around the world. We believe that students of educational change and community development will find it useful and helpful to have available in this volume some of the most up-to-date thinking on the chief concepts, theories, and values of increasing policy interest in lifelong learning, together with a review of some significant examples of the different forms, focuses, and nexuses of thought and practice on this topic. All this enables us to offer some policy recommendations and practical suggestions as to ways forward in the endeavour to make lifelong learning a reality for all.

The implications of these theories ar examined in relation to themes which run across the reader, namely, workplace learning, literacies, and the possibilities offered by information and communication technologies. The particular focus of this Reader is on the psychological or cognitive phenomena that happen in the minds of individual learners. Book Memory in the Ontopoiesis of Life

Download or read book Memory in the Ontopoiesis of Life written by Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-30 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An individual has the potentiality to develop himself/herself during each period of his/her life. This potential for development can be affected by many diff- ent factors. These factors are divided into two main areas as internal factors and external factors. The common assumption is that internal factors are more effective than external factors. This is the dilemma about learning which p- cess of lifelong learning is related to self-actualization. In this paper, discussion is limited to concept of lifelong learning and self actualization. LIFELONG LEARNING An individual can take proper support form many components such as family, education system, media and peers. However, they may not provide proper s- port for the individual. Thus, the individual needs more pedagogical support to solve problems of life, develop his/her skills and capabilities. The pedagogical support should be given by educational system. Teaching and learning in some areas such as math, science, drawing, social studies and so on were de ned as pedagogical support in the past. But, this approach is weakening in today. During teaching and learning processes teacher and learner should focus on the learning rather than the teaching. The concept of learning is likely to be argued in many dimensions. The c- cepts of teaching and learning tend to be rede ned based on the latest changes.

Book Learning Development and Education

Download or read book Learning Development and Education written by Knud Illeris and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the World Library of Educationalists, international experts themselves compile career-long collections of what they judge to be their finest pieces – extracts from books, key articles, salient research findings, major theoretical and practical contributions – so the world can read them in a single manageable volume. Readers will be able to follow the themes and strands and see how their work contributes to the development of the field. This volume brings together the selected works of Knud Illeris. Leaving a promising business career at age 27 to begin his higher education, Knud Illeris exemplifies the true spirit of youth and adult education that has resulted in him having published in almost twenty countries, including the UK, Germany, China, Korea and Brazil. Knud Illeris’ work revolves around the way learning takes place and in some cases does not take palce. Split into five parts; Learning Theory, Lifelong Learning as a Psychological Process, Special Learning Issues, Various Learning Approaches to Education, Learning in Working Life, Learning, Development and Education: From learning theory to education and practice is arranged thematically and examines youth and adult learning through Illeris’ model based on three dimensions of learning and competence development– emotional, cognitive and social, and four kinds of learning. In this collection of his papers, written over a period of almost five decades, and published in multiple languages, spanning from Faroese to Chinese, some of his most important works are chronicled. This compelling overview of Illeris’ contribution to educational thinking and theory charts the challenges and obstacles faced by disciplination and selection, and offers a genuine impression and understanding of an almost lifelong engagement with a wide range of topics in the field of learning – an engagement which has been the central area of Illeris’ academic life.
