Book excerpt: The Partisans is a story set on the stage of a world that never was, but has been and is. It is about a generation of young people born without hope on a planet doomed to consume itself in the fires of its own dynamic hatreds. Taanach of Dhayne is a man of war and a dreamer of peace—a wonderful abnormality in a world gone mad with violence perpetuated by generations of murderous ancestors. When fate aligns his path with that of a sworn enemy of his people, he begins to believe his world can change. Her name is Michal, and it is largely through her that the young within their respective nations learn to question the hateful regimes of their hard-hearted fathers. After an arduous journey to an unknown land, the adventurers are profoundly changed when they discover the remnants of a legendary people—the fabled Elders of Dolan. Driven then by a powerful, unifying purpose, the Partisans return to their own lands to initiate a campaign of destruction against the most powerful armies of their time. But they are only a few against the well-organized power of many thousands, an obstacle that seems impossible to overcome. The rebellion is naturally met with virulent resistance from the deeply entrenched powers that be, and thus the stage is set for conflict on an unprecedented scale. In the end, the demise of the ancient cancer of hate must come about from within the nations themselves, as the element of goodness they hold dormant rises up against the roots of their own despicable past.

  • Publisher : University Press of Kansas

  • Pages : 864 pages

Download or read book Operation Don s Left Wing written by David M. Glantz and published by University Press of Kansas. This book was released on 2019-12-13 with total page 864 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 1 January 1943, with German Sixth Army about to be destroyed in the Stalingrad pocket, the Stavka (Soviet High Command) launched Operation Don, a strategic offensive conducted by the Red Army’s Southern, Southwestern, and Trans-Caucasus Fronts aimed at demolishing German defenses in the southern Soviet Union and decisively turning the war’s tide. Critical to this ambitious operation was the mission assigned to the Trans-Caucasus Front—to isolate and destroy German Army Group A in the northern Caucasus region in cooperation with the Southern Front. Operation Don’s Left Wing is the first detailed study of this crucial but virtually overlooked Soviet military operation. Because of the priority given to the assault on German Sixth Army at Stalingrad, the Red Army Southwestern, Southern, and Trans-Caucasus Fronts were compelled to execute their missions with scant resources—inadequate logistical support, personnel replacements, and reinforcing equipment. Based on newly released Red Army archival operational documents, David M. Glantz constructs a clear, comprehensive account of how, despite such constraints, the Trans-Caucasus Front nonetheless pursued and severely damaged German First Panzer Army—although it failed to encircle and destroy the panzer army as hoped. These documents include candid daily orders and reports, periodic situation maps, a full array of ever-changing operational plans, and strength and casualty reports prepared by Soviet formations and units throughout the offensive. With unprecedented access to these documents, Glantz delves into previously forbidden topics such as unit strengths and losses and the foibles and attitudes of commanders at every level. Following Glantz’s Operation Don’s Main Attack, this documentary study expands our understanding of a pivotal operation in the Soviet triumph over Nazi Germany and a decisive moment in the history of World War II on the Eastern Front.

He’s taken out vamps, shifters, demons…it’s all in a night’s work for him. He protects the innocent and destroys the wicked. Case closed. The job doesn’t pay much and the benefits are literally hell, but a hunter is born to the work. Gifted with super strength and speed, Harrison was created to fight monsters. There is nothing else for him in this world. Then he meets her. She looks like innocence but makes him think of the hottest sin. When Harrison first meets Elise Aine, she’s surrounded by vamps who are only too eager to take a bite. Harrison stakes the vamps and intends to walk away from Elise, but she has other plans. She says that she’s under supernatural attack. Elise desperately needs his protection, and she’ll pay any price. One look into her dark and gorgeous eyes, and Harrison can’t walk away. He doesn’t want to walk away. He wants her. What Harrison doesn’t know…could just kill him. Elise isn’t human. Not by a long shot. And she’s got big plans for Harrison. Sure, the guy may think he’s a hunter, he may believe that his job is to rid the world of the wicked, but he’s dead wrong. And with her help, Harrison may just turn out to be the wickedest one of them all. Because he’s not really a hunter. He’s something far, far more interesting. And hot. Smokin’, in fact. He just needs to let his wild side out to play… As the queen of the fairies, Elise was born to trick and deceive, and, with way too many enemies closing in, she needs the most powerful protector imaginable at her side. Harrison is her destined mate, if he’ll just stop fighting monsters long enough to see that deep inside…he is a beast. A beast like no other. One that can blast fire and soar into the skies. A beast who can only be bound and tamed by love. Betrayal burns deep and cuts hard. Can the queen of the fairies show a hunter that even monsters can love? Or when he finds out the truth about her, will rage be all that Harrison knows? Either way, things are about to get red-hot. Watch out for the flames and smoke. Author’s Note: SLAY ALL DAY is a stand-alone with action, humor, and plenty of hot times ahead. Sit down, buckle up, and enjoy the ride!
