Book The New Social and Impact Economy

Download or read book The New Social and Impact Economy written by Benjamin Gidron and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume discusses the development of the new social and impact economy in ten countries around the globe. The new social and impact economy is an attempt to conceptualize developments after the 2008 economic crisis, which emphasized the pifalls of the Neo-Liberal economic system. In the aftermath of the crisis, new organizational entities evolved, which combined social and business objectives as part of their mission. Using data gathered by two recent international research projects—the ICSEM project and the FAB-MOVE project—the book provides an initial portrait of the forces at play in the evolution of the new social and impact economy, linking those to the past crisis as well as to Covid19 and comparing the emergence of the phenomenon in a varied group of countries. The book begins with an overview of the classical definitions of social economy and proposes a comprehensive concept of new social and impact economy, its characteristics, and sources. Ten country chapters as well as a comparative chapter on international social economy organizations follow. The volume concludes with an overall analysis of the data from the country chapters, forming a typology of social economy traditions and linking it to recent Post Capitalism trends. Creating a conceptual framework to analyze the new phenomena in social economy, this volume is ideal for academics and practitioners in the fields of social economy; social, economic and welfare policies; social and business entrepreneurship in a comparative fashion; social and technological innovation as well as CSR specialists and practitioners.

Book Labor in Finland

Download or read book Labor in Finland written by Carl Erik Knoellinger and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1960 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finland's precarious proximity to Russia makes this small country a unique and revealing study in contemporary social and economic patterns. The author demonstrates that "in spite of Finland's deep-rooted cultural kinship with Scandinavia...new factors, often political in nature, have affected the development of society very differently in each of these countries." One of the most decisive differences, as his book makes clear, is the position of the Communist party in Finnish politics. In this first English book on the Finnish situation, Carl Erik Knoellinger makes perceptive analyses of detailed data on the varied aspects of his subject.

Book From Text to Political Positions

Download or read book From Text to Political Positions written by Bertie Kaal and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Text to Political Positions addresses cross-disciplinary innovation in political text analysis for party positioning. Drawing on political science, computational methods and discourse analysis, it presents a diverse collection of analytical models including pure quantitative and qualitative approaches. By bringing together the prevailing text-analysis methods from each discipline the volume aims to alert researchers to new and exciting possibilities of text analyses across their own disciplinary boundary. The volume builds on the fact that each of the disciplines has a common interest in extracting information from political texts. The focus on political texts thus facilitates interdisciplinary cross-overs. The volume also includes chapters combining methods as examples of cross-disciplinary endeavours. These chapters present an open discussion of the constraints and (dis)advantages of either quantitative or qualitative methods when evaluating the possibilities of combining analytic tools.

Book War and Welfare

Download or read book War and Welfare written by J. Klausen and published by Springer. This book was released on 1998-08-14 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From belligerent to neutral countries, the civilian war economy that developed from 1939 to 1945 created the foundations for the postwar welfare state. War and Welfare examines the legacy of the 'warfare state' and reveals how it paved the path for the welfare state in ensuing decades. Jytte Klausen shows how the institutional marks made by World War II were critical to capitalist reform after the war. She argues that the warfare state was a gift to the European Left, and asserts that state-expansion and the changing domestic order during the war, in most countries regardless of their stances, anticipated the welfare state. When the war ended in 1945, the reconstruction process rested on piecemeal decisions to remove or retain war-time controls over the economy, ranging from state cartels to wage fixing. Klausen argues that the welfare state ratified prior changes in state-society relations and represented a continuation of institutional development undertaken during the war years. Meticulously researched and cogently argued, War and Welfare offers a different angle on the conception and construction of the welfare state, and lends insights into what may lie ahead in the future.

Book Health Effects of the New Labour Market

Download or read book Health Effects of the New Labour Market written by Kerstin Isaksson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-11 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The background for the international research conference “Health Hazards and Challenges in the New Working Life” was the emerging questions concerning the health and social effects of the rapid changes in the labour market leading to increasing long-term unemployment, temporary employment and irregular employment contracts. We knew that other countries have had this development at the labour market for a much longer time than Sweden has and it seemed a good idea to invite interested researchers and practitioners to an international seminar to share the relevant research findings and discuss future research needs. Thus, the first international, interdisciplinary research conference on “Health Hazards and Challenges in the New Working Life” was arranged in Stockholm during the last year of the 2nd millennium but was directed towards the foreseen development during the next millennium. We were very pleased that more than 200 participants came to a cold and dark country just after New Year’s Eve, and that it was a truly multidisciplinary setting. It became very obvious that it is necessary for the occupational health and safety research community to reach out to the public health research community as well as to the social and political sciences in order to understand the determinants and to perform comprehensive analyses at several levels in this new labour market situation.

Book A European Youth Revolt

Download or read book A European Youth Revolt written by Bart van der Steen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the early 1980s, large parts of Europe were swept with riots and youth revolts. Radicalised young people occupied buildings and clashed with the police in cities such as Zurich, Berlin and Amsterdam, while in Great Britain and France, 'migrant' youths protested fiercely against their underprivileged position and police brutality. Was there a link between the youth revolts in different European cities, and if so, how were they connected and how did they influence each other? These questions are central in this volume. This book covers case studies from countries in both Eastern and Western Europe and focuses not only on political movements such as squatting, but also on political subcultures such as punk, as well as the interaction between them. In doing so, it is the first historical collection with a transnational and interdisciplinary perspective on youth, youth revolts and social movements in the 1980s.
