Book The Nordic Model of Welfare

Download or read book The Nordic Model of Welfare written by Niels Finn Christiansen and published by Museum Tusculanum Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In international welfare state scholarship and political discourse the Nordic Model has become a standard concept. But how precise is the concept and to what extent do the five Nordic countries fit into this overall pattern? In this book a group of Nordic historians trace the historical origins and developments of welfare in the five Nordic countries. The aim of this book is to modify the standard concept by emphasizing both the common features and the variations between them. As a work hypothesis the authors regard "Norden" as a model with five exceptions. The articles in this book are all written by historians who have worked within the framework of a Nordic research project operating under the title The Nordic Welfare-Model - a Historical reappraisal.

Book Historical Dictionary of Denmark

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of Denmark written by Alastair H. Thomas and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2016-07-26 with total page 705 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Denmark has a millennium-long continuous history and development from Viking times (about 800-1050 AD) to the modern welfare state. The resilience of the Danish people is evident in the artistic golden age of the early 19th century despite national bankruptcy, the agricultural revival during the final third of the 19th century. Modern Denmark leads in industrial design, furniture, engineering, pharmacy, and social development in the 20th century. Danish scientists, medical doctors, composers, musicians, choreographers, playwrights, authors, sculptors, architects, designers, painters and film directors have made significant contributions to the development of European culture. In the 21st century, Denmark combines a thriving and highly productive modern economy with extensive social care and welfare, and thus refutes the neo-conservative economists who claim that such a combination is impossible. In short, Denmark is seen by the Danes and their neighbors as a very good place to live. This third edition of Historical Dictionary of Denmark contains a chronology, an introduction, appendixes, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has over 1000 cross-referenced entries on important personalities, politics, economy, foreign relations, religion, and culture. This book is an excellent access point for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about Denmark.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work sheds great insight on the complexities of international security. Recognizing the need for an authoritative text offering a country-by-country summary of the main items of social security regulation in each jurisdiction, Coopers & Lybrand has assembled a group of experts to present the most essential and current information to individuals and multinationals operating abroad. The International Guide to Social Security covers some thirty countries, offering a comprehensive survey of social security regulations worldwide. Each country report provides the reader with a comprehensive overview of the social security regulations which operate within the country, and assesses the costs and risks involved with moving to that particular jurisdiction. In addition, because each country report is styled upon a standard format, the use of the work as a comparative tool is greatly enhanced. The inclusion of many actual cost calculations and scenarios contributes to the book's utility value, as does its detailed table of contents which allows the user to access the Guide quickly and effectively.

Download or read book Pension Systems written by Birgit Mattil and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-11 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, policy debate and comparative research on old-age pensions have focused on the financial sustainability of pension systems in the face of demographic change. This study, however, also takes into account distributional effects involved in pension system structures. Theoretical, institutional and empirical analyses are combined to form a comprehensive framework for evaluating financial sustainability and distributional effects of the pension systems implemented in Germany and the United Kingdom. Along with projections of demographic trends and future public pension expenditure, the empirical results on old-age incomes and their distribution allow for identifying a number of reform options for each pension system to improve their financial or distributional results.
