Download or read book Arithmetic Geometry of Logarithmic Pairs and Hyperbolicity of Moduli Spaces written by Marc-Hubert Nicole and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-31 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook introduces exciting new developments and cutting-edge results on the theme of hyperbolicity. Written by leading experts in their respective fields, the chapters stem from mini-courses given alongside three workshops that took place in Montréal between 2018 and 2019. Each chapter is self-contained, including an overview of preliminaries for each respective topic. This approach captures the spirit of the original lectures, which prepared graduate students and those new to the field for the technical talks in the program. The four chapters turn the spotlight on the following pivotal themes: The basic notions of o-minimal geometry, which build to the proof of the Ax–Schanuel conjecture for variations of Hodge structures; A broad introduction to the theory of orbifold pairs and Campana's conjectures, with a special emphasis on the arithmetic perspective; A systematic presentation and comparison between different notions of hyperbolicity, as an introduction to the Lang–Vojta conjectures in the projective case; An exploration of hyperbolicity and the Lang–Vojta conjectures in the general case of quasi-projective varieties. Arithmetic Geometry of Logarithmic Pairs and Hyperbolicity of Moduli Spaces is an ideal resource for graduate students and researchers in number theory, complex algebraic geometry, and arithmetic geometry. A basic course in algebraic geometry is assumed, along with some familiarity with the vocabulary of algebraic number theory.

Download or read book Beginning Topology written by Sue E. Goodman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2009 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning Topology is designed to give undergraduate students a broad notion of the scope of topology in areas of point-set, geometric, combinatorial, differential, and algebraic topology, including an introduction to knot theory. A primary goal is to expose students to some recent research and to get them actively involved in learning. Exercises and open-ended projects are placed throughout the text, making it adaptable to seminar-style classes. The book starts with a chapter introducing the basic concepts of point-set topology, with examples chosen to captivate students' imaginations while illustrating the need for rigor. Most of the material in this and the next two chapters is essential for the remainder of the book. One can then choose from chapters on map coloring, vector fields on surfaces, the fundamental group, and knot theory. A solid foundation in calculus is necessary, with some differential equations and basic group theory helpful in a couple of chapters. Topics are chosen to appeal to a wide variety of students: primarily upper-level math majors, but also a few freshmen and sophomores as well as graduate students from physics, economics, and computer science. All students will benefit from seeing the interaction of topology with other fields of mathematics and science; some will be motivated to continue with a more in-depth, rigorous study of topology.
Download or read book From Geometry to Topology written by H. Graham Flegg and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-03-08 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This excellent introduction to topology eases first-year math students and general readers into the subject by surveying its concepts in a descriptive and intuitive way, attempting to build a bridge from the familiar concepts of geometry to the formalized study of topology. The first three chapters focus on congruence classes defined by transformations in real Euclidean space. As the number of permitted transformations increases, these classes become larger, and their common topological properties become intuitively clear. Chapters 4–12 give a largely intuitive presentation of selected topics. In the remaining five chapters, the author moves to a more conventional presentation of continuity, sets, functions, metric spaces, and topological spaces. Exercises and Problems. 101 black-and-white illustrations. 1974 edition.

Download or read book Il Museo di Storia Naturale dell Universit degli Studi di Firenze Le collezioni geologiche e paleontologiche The Museum of Natural History of the University of Florence The Geological and Paleontological Collections written by Simonetta Monechi and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Natural History Museum of the University of Florence, founded in 1775 by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo, is one of the oldest scientific museum in the world. With this third volume on the collections of the Geology and Paleontology Section, Firenze University Press continues its series dedicated to the six Sections of the Museum. The first part of the volume shows a detailed and fascinating descriptions of the history of this museum section's collections, the contribution of scholars who from the 17th century endeavoured to expand and study the Florentine geological-paleontological collections, and the importance of the collections to the development of modern geological-paleontological thinking. The second part describes and documents the collections, that are presented in geo-chronological order, divided into the Invertebrate, Vertebrate, Paleobotanical and Geological collections. In the last part are presented the most important activities and research projects, based on this important cultural heritage, carried out by the paleontologists of the University of Florence.

Download or read book Principles of Copula Theory written by Fabrizio Durante and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives readers the solid and formal mathematical background to apply copulas to a range of mathematical areas, such as probability, real analysis, measure theory, and algebraic structures. The authors prove the results as simply as possible and unify various methods scattered throughout the literature in common frameworks, including shuffles of copulas. They also explore connections with related functions, such as quasi-copulas, semi-copulas, and triangular norms, that have been used in different domains.
