Download or read book Apprehended The Trials of Dickie Lynn written by Domingo Soto and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-11-12 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-end and affluent pretty-boy Florida Keys drug traffickers traveled to the Deep South to set up a command center at rural hunting camps and with the precision of a well-oiled machine, triangulated between Florida and South and Central America the many moving parts of their scheme. This synchronicity resulted in the importation of sixteen tons of cocaine "up the 88," the line of longitude that runs through Mobile, Alabama. Defending them were some of the best lawyers in the country, one of them Miami's Roy Black. It's a story with a plethora of sexy facts like airplane crashes, jail breaks, dead bodies, Columbian drug lords, the CIA and Cuban freedom fighters, corrupt United States Customs Service officials and governmental attempts at paranormal policing.

Book excerpt: Do you often feel like you are on the treadmill of life, worn out, tired, burnt out, and performing for God? Well, it's time that we get set free and enter into the journey of our true identity; it's time to take back the identity that has been stolen from us, stolen by life, stolen by religion, stolen by the enemy. It's time for freedom, and it's time to apprehend our true identity. It's a longing of mine to see believers walk in freedom and see them thrive, regardless of the season they find themselves in. Freedom from what, you may ask? Freedom from sin, sickness, bondage, guilt, condemnation, shame, religion, addictions, and Christian "performance." The answer is more simple than we could ever think. As a minister of the gospel now for over 20 years, a lot has been seen, observed, and learned in this journey. I'm truly grateful for every part of life's journey, as it's formed and helped create me into all that God planned for me. I realize that what you are about to read may be new to many people, and for others, perhaps it will just help take you a little deeper into the freedom that Christ destined us to live in. This book jumps into the heart of the Father, union with Christ, a fresh look at understanding righteousness and the finished work of the Cross. Let's get free and walk in the power of God and be heaven's transformational agents.

Book Apprehending the Criminal

Download or read book Apprehending the Criminal written by Marie-Christine Leps and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this wide-ranging analysis, Marie-Christine Leps traces the production and circulation of knowledge about the criminal in nineteenth-century discourse, and shows how the delineation of deviance served to construct cultural norms. She demonstrates how the apprehension of crime and criminals was an important factor in the establishment of such key institutions as national systems of education, a cheap daily press, and various welfare measures designed to fight the spread of criminality. Leps focuses on three discursive practices: the emergence of criminology, the development of a mass-produced press, and the proliferation of crime fiction, in both England and France. Beginning where Foucault's work Discipline and Punish ends, Leps analyzes intertextual modes of knowledge production and shows how the elaboration of hegemonic truths about the criminal is related to the exercise of power. The scope of her investigation includes scientific treatises such as Criminal Man by Cesare Lombroso and The English Convict by Charles Goring, reports on the Jack the Ripper murders in The Times and Le Petit Parisien, the Sherlock Holmes stories, Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and novels by Zola and Bourget.

Book Goodbye to the Nervous Apprehension

Download or read book Goodbye to the Nervous Apprehension written by Michael Heald and published by Perfect Day Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across eleven essays, Michael Heald compulsively measures himself against men like Eli Manning, Ryan Gosling, and Stephen Malkmus, and always comes up short. After a decade of failed relationships, estranged siblings, and abandoned hopes, he may or may not have learned his lesson. Goodbye to the Nervous Apprehension is not nearly as depressing as any of this sounds. "Sneaky deep" - The Oregonian "Truly brilliant" - The Baltimore City Paper "Fiercely observant" - The Portland Review "A kind of field guide to Heald's twenties. In his telling, this is a decade of self-definition and self-discovery -- a time that's both painful and thrilling. Above all, Goodbye is about dealing with disappointment, and learning how to embrace a life that doesn't fit the pattern you'd set for yourself.” —Think Out Loud, Oregon Public Broadcasting “Michael Heald is not a big guy, but he’s got huge balls. In these tales of fumbling young adulthood—written in quick, limber, lacerating prose—he peers deeply into the mess of ambition, privilege, envy, and horniness that defines our endless American adolescence, and comes out with something like wisdom.” —Jon Raymond, author of Rain Dragon and Livability “Full of compassionate warmth and just a little bit of snark, this great debut might steal your heart and/or break it.” —Kevin Sampsell, author of A Common Pornography “Michael Heald is a fearless writer. These sharply observed essays—about intense adolescent friendships, terrifically awkward sex, and the peculiar psychic pain of knowing famous people but not actually being one oneself—are funny and sad and wistful and shrewd. At their heart is a deep exploration of ambition, and of how we decide who we want to become.” —Emily Chenoweth, author of Hello Goodbye “Michael Heald is raw and funny, hopeful about all the wrong things, afraid of what might actually save him; he transcends everything but his own agonizing perception of self.” —Vanessa Veselka, author of Zazen “An insightful journey through the cultural landscape, Goodbye to the Nervous Apprehension captures perfectly the strain of those post-college years, especially for those of us who insisted on maintaining a consistency between our youthful artistic selves and our eventual adult personas.” —Blake Nelson, author of Girl and Paranoid Park

Book excerpt: This book offers the first synoptic study of how the primary elements in knowledge structures were analysed in antiquity from Plato to late ancient commentaries. It argues that, in the Platonic-Aristotelian tradition, the question of starting points was treated from two distinct points of view: as a question of how we acquire basic knowledge; and as a question of the premises we may immediately accept in the line of argumentation.

Download or read book Apprehension written by Lynn Holt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002. This work introduces and explores the role of apprehension in reasoning - setting out the problems, determining the vocabulary, fixing the boundaries and questioning what is often taken for granted. The author argues that a robust conception of rationality must include intellectual virtues which cannot be reduced to a set of rules for reasoners, and argues that the virtue of apprehension, an acquired disposition to see things correctly, is required if rationality is to be defensible. Drawing on an Aristotelian conception of intellectual virtue and examples from the sciences, the author shows why impersonal standards for rationality are misguided, why foundations for knowledge are the last elements to emerge from inquiry not the first, and why intuition is a poor substitute for virtue. By placing the current scene in historical perspective, the author displays the current impasse as the inevitable outcome of the replacement of intellectual virtue with method in the early modern philosophical imagination.
