Book Personal Construct Psychology at 60

Download or read book Personal Construct Psychology at 60 written by Peter Cummins and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-08-21 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 60th anniversary of the publication of George Kelly’s The Psychology of Personal Constructs was marked, in 2015, by the 21st International Congress on Personal Construct Psychology. His two volume work set out personal construct theory as a radical new approach to psychology. Although Kelly was a clinical psychologist, personal construct psychology has had an extraordinarily broad range of influence and application, extending beyond the clinical setting to include areas as diverse as education, organizational and management development, social psychology, the arts, law and politics. It presaged constructivist developments in many spheres of knowledge, and its innovative research methods have been used in a vast number of studies focussed on the exploration of personal and interpersonal meaning. The 21st International Congress was held in the UK at the University of Hertfordshire, forty years after the first such congress. This volume presents contributions by many of the Congress’s delegates, whose chapters reflect the diversity of contemporary applications of personal construct psychology, and the continuing relevance and vitality of Kelly’s ideas and methods.

Book excerpt: Originally published in 1986, this was a new and completely updated edition of the book which, since 1970 had introduced a whole generation in English psychology to Kelly’s theory of personal constructs. By setting out a broadly designed and experimentally illustrated view of people as self-inventing explorers and interpreters of their world it challenged the ‘mechanical man’ of orthodox psychology. It proved a source of radically new ideas in psychotherapy, education and industry. This revised edition shows how the theory’s professional applications have spread ever wider, while many have realised that personal construct psychology contains, for them, the core of a personal philosophy.

Book Personal Constructivism

Download or read book Personal Constructivism written by Larry Milton Leitner and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a sense, the multifaceted contributions in this compendium deconstruct and reconstruct the very concept of personal construct psychology, tracing its personal origins in the life and work of George Kelly, examining its implications for the construction of a social self and its shadow side, alienation, and exploring its affordances for a striking range of clinical and theoretical issues. Anyone who wonders whether this wellspring of constructivist psychology continues to feed into vital contemporary discourse will be reassured by the strength, vitality and novelty of the contributions to these pages, and the clarity with which Kelly's voice is echoed and extended in the voices of subsequent generations of scholars. Book excerpt: "As this accessibility is what has attracted the favourable response, the second edition retains the chapters on the theory and procedures for its practical application largely unchanged - only amended and clarified where this was felt necessary. Examples of the ideas in action have been updated and the work of later writers and practitioners brought in. The scope of the book is widened by the introduction of a new chapter on the use of PCP in work for organisations, an area of development which has expanded greatly in the last ten years."--Jacket.

Book excerpt: George Kelly's personal construct theory, first published in 1955, is as radical today as it was then. Describing how each one of us goes about our daily life trying to make sense of the events around us, it maintains that we are in charge of what we do in the world, that we do not merely react to events. This book reveals that George Kelly was a man of enormous intellect, of many talents and of great complexity. Fay Fransella outlines how his views have influenced the theory and practice of psychotherapy, and illustrates how his training in physics and mathematics influenced his theory and led to the development of one of his methods of measurement - the repertory grid. The book also describes Kelly's phil

Book Applications of Kelly s Personal Construct Theory to Vocational Guidance

Download or read book Applications of Kelly s Personal Construct Theory to Vocational Guidance written by Anna Paszkowska-Rogacz and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper outlines selected applications of Kelly's Personal Construct Theory to vocational guidance. The authors elicited personal constructs using the Rep Test (Role Construct Repertory Test) and compared them with Holland's occupational typology. The sample (N = 136, F = 85, M = 51, average age of 21.97) was composed of students of various universities in Lodz, Poland. Two diagnostic methods were used: the Vocational Preference Questionnaire Job-6 and a Rep Test focused on job-related constructs. The authors used multi-dimensional scaling to analyze and visualize the results. The results show that the application of Kelly's Personal Construct Theory to vocational guidance is a valuable approach, which affords results complementary to those obtained with questionnaire-based methods. (Contains 6 figures.).
