Book The Extraction and Separation of Niobium and Tantalum by Liquid liquid Extraction Using Tri n butyl Phosphate

Download or read book The Extraction and Separation of Niobium and Tantalum by Liquid liquid Extraction Using Tri n butyl Phosphate written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The system proposed for the production of niobium and tantalum is liquid-liquid extraction by TBP. The combined niobium and tantalum are extracted with TBP, and the niobium is scrubbed from the organic phase with 4 N sulphuric acid. Any tantalum removed with the niobium is re-extracted with TBP and returned to the extraction circuit. Tantalum is then removed from the organic phase with 8 per cent ammonium fluoride. Recovery figures are given for the various stages of the operation, and equilibrium and settling curves are included. The long-term stability of the process and its final optimization were not investigated, and it is recommended that the optimization should be done during the commissioning of the plant.

Book Separation of Tantalum and Niobium

Download or read book Separation of Tantalum and Niobium written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A liquid-liquid extraction process for the extraction of tantalum and niobium, and their separation from each other is provided. A solution of the fluoride complexes of tantalum and niobium is firstly formed and tantalum extracted therefrom using a selective organic extractant in an amount of not more than 1 mole of extractant per mole of tantalum present. A second tantalum extraction is then carried out similarly, but using a lower concentration of not more than 0,2 moles of the same extractant per mole of tantalum originally present. Niobium is then extracted in a similar way. The extractant is one or more quaternary ammonium compounds dissolved in a hydrocarbon with an oxygen-carrying modifier, normally an alcohol, added. The tantalum and niobium-rich organic phases are optionally washed with acid and subjected to stripping to recover tantalum and niobium, generally in a precipitated form.

Book A Countercurrent Liquid liquid Extractor

Download or read book A Countercurrent Liquid liquid Extractor written by Harley A. Wilhelm and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A novel countercurrent liquid-liquid extractor is presented and illustrated with applications. The apparatus consists essentially of an assembly of mixer-settlers, feeders, reservoirs, and flow lines that are made of glass or other chemical resistant materials. The applicability of the extractor is illustrated by extractions involving zirconium and hafnium, and niobium and tantalum.
