Book Systems thinking strengthening health systems in practice

Download or read book Systems thinking strengthening health systems in practice written by Kara Durski and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-12-12 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As health systems all over the world not only recover from COVID-19, but learn to adapt to contexts of increasing uncertainty amidst persistent challenges, it is clear that systems thinking has never been needed more. Systems thinking is an approach to problem-solving that views problems as part of a wider dynamic system. It recognizes and prioritizes the understanding of linkages, relationships, interactions and interdependencies among the components of a system that give rise to the system’s observed behaviour. Systems thinking is a philosophical frame, and it can also be considered a method with its own tools. Identifying ways in the short and long-term which strengthen health systems is critical and applied systems thinking offers opportunities to do this. Systems thinking is often considered to be a field, a discipline, a philosophical approach and a set of tools and methods and can be defined as a way to understand and improve complex issues and situations. Despite broad consensus that systems thinking is important in health systems strengthening, it remains underutilized by researchers, public health practitioners and health decision makers. Further, a gap remains in the translation from concept to policy.

Book Application of Systems Thinking in Health

Download or read book Application of Systems Thinking in Health written by Asmat Ullah Malik and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems thinking is not a new concept to health system strengthening; however, one question remains unanswered: How policy-makers, system designers and consultants with a system thinking philosophy should act (have acted) as potential change agents in actually gaining opportunities to introduce systems thinking? Development of Comprehensive Multi-Year Plans (cMYPs) for Immunization System is one such opportunity because almost all Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) develop and implement cMYPs every five years. Without building upon examples and showing practical application, the discussions and deliberations on systems thinking may fade away with passage of time. There are opportunities that exist around us in our existing health systems that we can benefit from starting with an incremental approach and generating evidence for longer lasting system-wide changes.

Book Applications of Systems Thinking for Health System Research

Download or read book Applications of Systems Thinking for Health System Research written by Sandul Yasobant and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complex health challenges are increasingly demanding multisectoral approaches for their solution. Possible solutions are further complexed by the health system structure and its different degrees of resilience, which differ from setting to setting. One Health guiding principles may help facilitate the actors across the different systems to address these complex issues; however, challenges remained in implementing such principles in a health system of a developing nation. For understanding the factors influencing the system complexity and dynamics of a health system, systems thinking is a suitable approach. As it is directed against fallacies of linear causalities, it might help avoid blind spots in the study of social fields. This case study discusses the applications of systems thinking to develop One Health strategies in a local setting in Ahmedabad, India. Furthermore, the systems thinking skills were applied to improve convergence at the local level by identifying the entry points.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this expanded and revised edition of a fresh and original case-study textbook on environmental ethics, Christine Gudorf and James Huchingson continue to explore the line that separates the current state of the environment from what it should be in the future. Boundaries begins with a lucid overview of the field, highlighting the key developments and theories in the environmental movement. Specific cases offer a rich and diverse range of situations from around the globe, from saving the forests of Java and the use of pesticides in developing countries to restoring degraded ecosystems in Nebraska. With an emphasis on the concrete circumstances of particular localities, the studies continue to focus on the dilemmas and struggles of individuals and communities who face daunting decisions with serious consequences. This second edition features extensive updates and revisions, along with four new cases: one on water privatization, one on governmental efforts to mitigate global climate change, and two on the obstacles that teachers of environmental ethics encounter in the classroom. Boundaries also includes an appendix for teachers that describes how to use the cases in the classroom.

Book Innovation Catch up and Sustainable Development

Download or read book Innovation Catch up and Sustainable Development written by Andreas Pyka and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents selected contributions from the 2018 conference of the International Schumpeter Society (ISS). The selected chapters in this volume reflect the state-of-the-art of Schumpeterian economics dedicated to the three conference topics innovation, catch-up, and sustainability. Innovation is driving catch-up processes and is the condition for a transformation towards higher degrees of sustainability. Therefore, Schumpeterian economics has to play a key role in these most challenging fields of human societies’ development in the 21st century. The three topics are well suited to capture the great variety of issues, which have the potential to shape the scientific discussion in economics and related disciplines in the years to come. The presented contributions show the broadness and high standard of Schumpeterian analysis. The ideas of dynamics, heterogeneity, novelty, and innovation as well as transformation are the most attractive fields in economics today and offer the most prolific interdisciplinary connections now and for the years to come when humankind, our global society, has to master the transition towards sustainable economic systems by solving the grand challenges and wicked problems with which we are confronted today. Therefore, the book is a must-read for scholars, researchers, and students, interested in a better understanding of innovation, catch-up, and sustainability, and Schumpeterian economics in general. Is it actually a scientific concept or simply a buzz-word? How useful is it in terms of low income countries? How does the national innovation system relate to economic, social and environmental sustainable development? Is it meaningful to study national systems in a globalizing economy? What are the legitimate policy implications? This book provides an in depth analysis of all these questions as well as recommending future avenues of research.
