As a wildlife biologist, Theodore N. Bailey had extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna that flourished at Leatherwood Creek. His meticulous research into the biological, cultural, and historical aspects of this area provides a wealth of information. At the beginning of each chapter, the author offers personal reflections of the creek from his memories growing up in southeastern Ohio in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. At the end of each chapter, he explores how the region has changed over the years. Backed with scientific evidence, the author’s thoughtful insights will inspire Ohio residents and others throughout the world to cultivate a deeper appreciation for the great diversity of life that is all around us, and a greater desire to take the time to observe and protect our natural world.

Download or read book Irene Lucinda io the Daughter of Jupiter and Aphrodite written by Isaac Mampuya Samba and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-02-15 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let us listen to Irene Lucindaio express herself on this subject: And again, alas! I was going to defray the chronicles of evil! In any case, I am Irene Lucindaio. I am bad luck to people. To know that, already, already, already, already, and already, I had introduced (during days of Friday the 13th) the formidable idea of the Suicidero Form, the Suicideros form, through the sad form, by the nostalgia form, and the melancholy form, in a peaceful family of thirteen persons (the Loureno familythe offspring and their parents); thirteen people, in fact, completely suicidal themselves, so to speak, decimated. And the recourse to this macabre idea, it was because of whom? It was because of me, Irene Lucindaio. But really: What rubbish that I am me? So I must be ashamed to be able to look at myself in a mirror! Thus, this Venus called Irene Lucindaio would captivate all eyes, all the attention, and (it goes without saying) all comments. And again, alas! She was going to defray the chronicles of evil; consequently, for her, gossiping gossip and the feeling of living in the depths of the abyss had become indisputable. Hence, for her, it was absolutely necessary to go away. For her, she would actually have no other alternative as a solution than that of leaving, leaving, leaving, and leaving; going far away; very far; far, far away; very, very far from her birthplace. She would go to London. Only here, her son Ernesto, where he would have stayed with his grandparents, would have become the toy of all; whats more, every night he would have horrible nightmares, with multiple names that he would remember. And so, every morning, he would wake up in the wrong way. And what to do in front of this situation?

Download or read book The Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite and Related Texts written by S. Douglas Olson and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-07-04 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite (600s BCE?) tells the story of a brief encounter between the goddess of love and the cowherd Anchises, which led to the birth of the Trojan hero Aeneas. Less than 300 lines long, it is among the shortest of the so-called ‘major Homeric Hymns’. However, it is also richly and beautifully conceived and narrated, and of enormous importance for the Greek mythology and the history of Greek religion. Olson offers a complete new text of the poem and of ten related ‘minor Hymns’, based on a fresh examination of the manuscripts; a full critical apparatus; and a translation. The work is completed by a substantial introduction, which treats inter alia the stories of Aeneas, the problem of dating early Greek epic, and the nature of the connections between the Hymn to Aphrodite and the Homeric and Hesiodic poems. Olson furthermore offers a substantial, narratologically-oriented commentary.

Download or read book The Crown of Minos The Qos Empire written by Douglas Roff and published by Douglas Roff. This book was released on 2018-06-01 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author's Note In my last published novel, Minos, I divided the plot into two parts of one continuous story. Part One of Minos follows the exploits of Adam St. James and his family when he and his brother Rod were thirteen years old and helping their father, Dr. Edward St. James, in solving a murder/kidnap mystery on the island of Crete in Greece. Part Two follows that same storyline after Adam turns eighteen and returns to Crete and the Minos Valley alone after the adventures concluded five years earlier. This novel, a sequel to Minos in an alternate universe, along with Minos, also in an alternative universe, is a prequel to the Cryptid Trilogy written by my son and co-author, Jacob Roff. There are three sequels to the Cryptid Trilogy soon to be available in wide distribution. DER, June, 2023
