Download or read book AP2PC 2002 written by Gianluca Moro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-07-09 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peer-to-peer (P2P) computing is currently attracting enormous public attention, spurred by the popularity of file-sharing systems such as Napster, Gnutella, and Morpheus. In P2P systems a very large number of autonomous computing nodes, the peers, rely on each other for services. P2P networks are emerging as a new distributed computing paradigm because of their potential to harness the computing power of the hosts composing the network, and because they make their underutilized resources available to each other. This book brings together three especially commissioned invited articles, an introduction, and revised versions of the papers presented at the 1st International Workshop on Agents and Peer-to-Peer Computing, AP2PC 2002, held in Bologna, Italy in July 2002. The book is organized into topical sections on peer-to-peer services, discovery and delivery of trustworthy services, and search and cooperation in peer-to-peer agent systems.

Distributed applications and interoperable systems have become an integral part of everyday living and hence part of the socio-economic ecosystem of our humanenvironment.Withsuchpervasivedistributionofsoftwaresystemsacross a multitude of heterogeneous environments and user domains, distributed app- cations must support seamless provision of services, as well as service evolution and adaptability to ensure long-term sustainability. This support must go - yond the provision of individual services in isolation, towards systems in which such services can interoperate and be integrated into the everyday environment catering for the changing needs of their users.

Download or read book Optimization Problems in Self Organizing Networks written by Steffen Wolf and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2010 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern computer networks or wireless ad-hoc networks offer a wide range of interesting optimization problems. Usual optimization goals are the minimization of the message delay in a Peer-to-Peer system or the minimization of the energy consumption of a wireless network. This thesis presents different kinds of algorithms to solve such optimization problems. Starting from the mathematical formulations for these problems, various global view optimization algorithms are presented. These algorithms are based on evolutionary algorithms and local search or similar heuristics. They can be used to quickly find near-optimal solutions, if a global view of the network is possible. As the participants in a computer network or a wireless ad-hoc network are autonomous nodes, distributed algorithms can be designed that enable these nodes to collectively solve the optimization problem. Four distributed algorithms are formulated and evaluated in this thesis, thus laying grounds for distributed optimization of networks. Using these algorithms, the network can be modelled as a self-optimizing network and the optimization problem can be approached without global view.

We are currently witnessing a proliferation in mobile/wireless technologies and applications. However, these new technologies have ushered in unprecedented challenges for the research community across the range of networking, mobile computing, network security and wireless web applications, and optical network topics. ICCNMC 2005 was sponsored by the China Computer Federation, in cooperation with the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society. The objective of this conference was to address and capture highly innovative and stateof-the-art research and work in the networks and mobile computing industries. ICCNMC 2005 allowed sharing of the underlying theories and applications, and the establishment of new and long-term collaborative channels aimed at developing innovative concepts and solutions geared to future markets. The highly positive response to ICCNMC 2001 and ICCNMC 2003, held in Beijing and Shanghai, respectively, encouraged us to continue this international event. In its third year, ICCNMC 2005 continued to provide a forum for researchers, professionals, and industrial practitioners from around the world to report on new advances in computer network and mobile computing, as well as to identify issues and directions for research and development in the new era of evolving technologies.
Download or read book Transactions on Large Scale Data and Knowledge Centered Systems III written by Abdelkader Hameurlain and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-02 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The LNCS journal Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems focuses on data management, knowledge discovery, and knowledge processing, which are core and hot topics in computer science. Since the 1990s, the Internet has become the main driving force behind application development in all domains. An increase in the demand for resource sharing across different sites connected through networks has led to an evolution of data- and knowledge-management systems from centralized systems to decentralized systems enabling large-scale distributed applications providing high scalability. Current decentralized systems still focus on data and knowledge as their main resource. Feasibility of these systems relies basically on P2P (peer-to-peer) techniques and the support of agent systems with scaling and decentralized control. Synergy between Grids, P2P systems, and agent technologies is the key to data- and knowledge-centered systems in large-scale environments. This, the third issue of Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems, contains two kinds of papers: Firstly, a selection of the best papers from the third International Conference on Data Management in Grid and Peer-to-Peer Systems, Globe 2010, and secondly, a selection of 6 papers from the 18 papers submitted in response to the call for papers for this issue. The topics covered by this special issue include replication, the semantic web, information retrieval, data storage, source selection, and large-scale distributed applications.
