Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER Soon to be a major motion picture "Jon Swift + Witches of Eastwick + Kelly 'Get In Trouble' Link + Mean Girls + Creative Writing Degree Hell! No punches pulled, no hilarities dodged, no meme unmangled! O Bunny you are sooo genius!" —Margaret Atwood, via Twitter "A wild, audacious and ultimately unforgettable novel." —Michael Schaub, Los Angeles Times "Awad is a stone-cold genius." —Ann Bauer, The Washington Post The Vegetarian meets Heathers in this darkly funny, seductively strange novel from the acclaimed author of 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl and Rouge "We were just these innocent girls in the night trying to make something beautiful. We nearly died. We very nearly did, didn't we?" Samantha Heather Mackey couldn't be more of an outsider in her small, highly selective MFA program at New England's Warren University. A scholarship student who prefers the company of her dark imagination to that of most people, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort--a clique of unbearably twee rich girls who call each other "Bunny," and seem to move and speak as one. But everything changes when Samantha receives an invitation to the Bunnies' fabled "Smut Salon," and finds herself inexplicably drawn to their front door--ditching her only friend, Ava, in the process. As Samantha plunges deeper and deeper into the Bunnies' sinister yet saccharine world, beginning to take part in the ritualistic off-campus "Workshop" where they conjure their monstrous creations, the edges of reality begin to blur. Soon, her friendships with Ava and the Bunnies will be brought into deadly collision. The spellbinding new novel from one of our most fearless chroniclers of the female experience, Bunny is a down-the-rabbit-hole tale of loneliness and belonging, friendship and desire, and the fantastic and terrible power of the imagination. Download or read book Anuja written by Anuja Kapadia and published by Booktango. This book was released on 2016-03-02 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not just my story or a story of an independent-minded Indian woman called Anuja. The story comprises composite characters, including the first person, made up with combination of lives of some remarkable persons that I have met during so many years. I have used these composite characters to illustrate the theme, that is, the influence of changing circumstances with changing times on an Indian woman’s life, which may not necessarily represent a typical or generalized specimen. Over the centuries, the Indian society has cast a woman in a submissive and self-sacrificing role. On the other hand, men have been accepted as the masters and providers and, perhaps, even if they are susceptible to impropriety, worthy of compassion, and always deserving attention and loyalty from the women. Leading men with authority and writers of scriptures have made such a convenient division! In the changing world, it seems unjust that the abilities and ambitions of women should be constrained in such old fashioned ways. I hope that women in India can try hard to achieve their goals, even if their actions may not comply with traditions.

Download or read book Dada Dada written by Anuja Khemka and published by Bookbaby. This book was released on 2020-08-31 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dada was written to celebrate the special bond between fathers and their children. The relationship between a father and a child is foundational. Together, they experience the light and cheery moments of life, while also developing a deep emotional relationship. My hope for Dada is that families will read the book together, enjoying its lyrical story and vibrant images. It was written to help parents unwind and destress after a long day at work, to instill happiness in their daily interactions with children, and at the same time, to create and verbalize a solid bond. Dada's illustrations invite children to search and discover the animals hidden on each page, stimulating their brains and helping them learn new things. In my own family, reading time brings us joy and laughs. According to research, it also brings us closer together and supports the mental health and wellness of our children (6, 7). I hope that Dada also brings that memorable, magical moments to your family.

Book excerpt: The Novel ANGELICA is different from the previous one, Wings That Spread. Aniket, along with his Spanish wife, comes to India and settles down with his family members. They came out of their comfort zones of happy professional lives and worked tirelessly to uplift the lower class and poor - to bring them up to a normal life. They looked to be successful - when they entered into the lives of Nomadic tribals, who dwelled in the thick forest - and with good intent. Both were aware of all those in ancient times when they shared a common ancestral root. But due to moments arising out of varying doctrines professed by different hamlets, some of them got divided by succession and were alien to each other from the beginning of their lives. Keeping this notion in mind, Jessica mingled with them. Yet, she persistently felt anxious and conscious. Now, the rich, upper class, middle class, and lower class are on a downward trend, this is a sorrowful affair. Money launderers are protected by taxation and many other ways. If all that money was used to uplift the needy people, India would have progressed by this time, using the talent found in individuals from unprivileged castes.

Download or read book Chaste Wives and Prostitute Sisters written by Anuja Agrawal and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2020-11-29 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an anthropological study of the unusual coincidence of prostitution and patriarchy among an extremely marginalized group in north India, the Bedias, who are also a de-notified community. It is the first detailed account of the implications of a systematic practice of familial prostitution on the kinship structures and marriage practices of a community. This starkly manifests among the Bedias in the clear separation between sisters and daughters who engage in prostitution and wives and daughters-in-law who do not. The Bedias exemplify a situation in which prostitution of young unmarried women is the mainstay of the familial economy of an entire social group. Tracing the recent origins of the practice in the community, the author goes on to explore the manner in which this familial economy manifests itself in the lives of individual women and the kind of family groupings it produces. She then examines the repercussion this economy has on the lives of Bedia men, how the problem of their marriage is resolved, and how the Bedia wives become repositories of female purity which otherwise stands jeopardized by Bedia sisters engaged in prostitution.
