Download or read book New Frontiers in Microsimulation Modelling written by Ann Harding and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 607 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past fifteen years, microsimulation models have become firmly established as vital tools for analysis of the distributional impact of changes in governmental programmes. Across Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, microsimulation models are used extensively to assess who are the winners and losers from proposed policy reforms; this is now expanding into new frontiers, both geographically and in terms of policy areas. With contributions from more than 60 international experts, this volume offers a comprehensive introduction to the state of microsimulation internationally, illustrating a wide range of new applications and approaches. It will be of relevance to government policy makers, social policy planners, economists and those concerned with predicting the impact of public policy change and to academics in a variety of disciplines, especially social and public policy, human geography, development studies and economics.
Download or read book Parties And Unions In The New Global Economy written by Katrina Burgess and published by University of Pittsburgh Pre. This book was released on 2010-11-23 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For much of the twentieth century, unions played a vital role in shaping political regimes and economic development strategies, particularly in Latin America and Europe. However, their influence has waned as political parties with close ties to unions have adopted neoliberal reforms harmful to the interests of workers. What do unions do when confronted with this "loyalty dilemma"? Katrina Burgess compares events in three countries to determine the reasons for widely divergent responses on the part of labor leaders to remarkably similar challenges. She argues that the key to understanding why some labor leaders protest and some acquiesce lies essentially in two domains: the relative power of the party and the workers to punish them, and the party's capacity to act autonomously from its own government.
Download or read book Microsimulation as a Tool for the Evaluation of Public Policies written by Amedeo Spadaro and published by Fundacion BBVA. This book was released on 2007 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Geographical Labor Market Imbalances written by Chiara Mussida and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-29 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the questions of how territorial differences in productivity levels and unemployment rates arise in the first place and why territorial differences in labor market performance persist over time. Unemployment divergence and unemployment club convergence have been touched on in a large number of works and have recently also been studied using spatial econometric analysis. In this book we aim to develop the debate to include several important new topics, such as: the reasons why structural changes in some sectors cause slumps in some regions but not in others; the extent to which agglomeration factors explain regional imbalances; the degree of convergence / divergence across EU countries and regions; the role of labor mobility in reducing / increasing regional labor market imbalances; the impact of EU and country-level regional policy in stimulating convergence and the (unsatisfactory) role of active labor market policy in stimulating labor supply in the weakest economic areas.
