O que significa que, pela primeira vez, os leitores de poesia podem eles próprios, a partir de um único livro, produzir uma apreciação quer sobre a poesia escrita na totalidade do século XX, quer sobre as poéticas do século XX em confronto e diálogo entre si e com os diversos momentos da tradição poética portuguesa ao longo de oito séculos (mais em diálogo do que em confronto, assim cremos). Ou simplesmente fruir dos milhares de poemas aqui compilados, saltando de uns séculos para os outros, começando pelo princípio, pelo meio ou pelo fim, organizando um número indefinido de antologias pessoais. Nestas mais de 2000 páginas coexistem, diacronicamente, mais de 800 anos de poesia, desde a "Cantiga de Garvaia" de Pai Soares de Taveirós, datável do primeiro decénio do século XIII, até outubro de 2008, data do mais recente poema aqui incluído, "Rasto", de Luís Quintais.
