Book Constructing three dimensional architectures to design advanced anodes materials for sodium ion batteries from nanoscale to microscale

Download or read book Constructing three dimensional architectures to design advanced anodes materials for sodium ion batteries from nanoscale to microscale written by Yu-Feng Sun and published by OAE Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2024-01-03 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are emerging as a possible substitute for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in low-cost and large-scale electrochemical energy storage systems owing to the lack of lithium resources. The properties of SIBs are correlated to the electrode materials, while the performance of electrode materials is significantly affected by the morphologies. In recent years, several kinds of anode materials involving carbon-based anodes, titanium-based anodes, conversion anodes, alloy-based anodes, and organic anodes have been systematically researched to develop high-performance SIBs. Nanostructures have huge specific surface areas and short ion diffusion pathways. However, the excessive solid electrolyte interface film and worse thermodynamic stability hinder the application of nanomaterials in SIBs. Thus, the strategies for constructing three-dimensional (3D) architectures have been developed to compensate for the flaws of nanomaterials. This review summarizes recent achievements in 3D architectures, including hollow structures, core-shell structures, yolk-shell structures, porous structures, and self-assembled nano/micro-structures, and discusses the relationship between the 3D architectures and sodium storage properties. Notably, the intention of constructing 3D architectures is to improve materials performance by integrating the benefits of various structures and components. The development of 3D architecture construction strategies will be essential to future SIB applications.

Book The Electrochemical Oxidation of H2 and CO at Patterned Ni Anodes of SOFCs

Download or read book The Electrochemical Oxidation of H2 and CO at Patterned Ni Anodes of SOFCs written by Annika Utz and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-22 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, a deeper understanding of the electrochemical oxidation at SOFC anodes was gained by the experimental characterization of patterned Ni anodes in H2-H2O and CO-CO2 atmosphere. By high resolution data analysis, the Line Specific Resistance attributed to charge transfer and its dependencies on gas composition, temperature and polarization voltage were identified. Furthermore, the comparison of the performance of patterned and cermet anodes was enabled using a transmission line model.

Book Advanced 3D structured electrode for potassium metal anodes

Download or read book Advanced 3D structured electrode for potassium metal anodes written by Dongqing Liu and published by OAE Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The potassium (K) metal anode, following the "Holy Grail" Li metal anode, is one of the most promising anode materials for next-generation batteries. In comparison with Li, K exhibits even more pronounced energy storage properties. However, it suffers from similar challenges as most alkali metal anodes, such as safety and cyclability issues. Borrowing strategies from Li/Na metal anodes, the three-dimensional (3D)-structured current collector has proven to be a universal and effective strategy. This study examines the recent research progress of 3D-structured electrodes for K metal anodes, focusing on the most commonly used host materials, including carbon-, metal-, and MXene-related electrode materials. Finally, existing challenges, various perspectives on the rational design of K metal anodes, and the future development of K batteries are presented.

Book Lithium Metal Anodes and Rechargeable Lithium Metal Batteries

Download or read book Lithium Metal Anodes and Rechargeable Lithium Metal Batteries written by Ji-Guang Zhang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-06 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides comprehensive coverage of Lithium (Li) metal anodes for rechargeable batteries. Li is an ideal anode material for rechargeable batteries due to its extremely high theoretical specific capacity (3860 mAh g-1), low density (0.59 g cm-3), and the lowest negative electrochemical potential (−3.040 V vs. standard hydrogenelectrodes). Unfortunately, uncontrollable dendritic Li growth and limited Coulombic efficiency during Li deposition/stripping inherent in these batteries have prevented their practical applications over the past 40 years. With the emergence of post Liion batteries, safe and efficient operation of Li metal anodes has become an enabling technology which may determine the fate of several promising candidates for the next generation energy storage systems, including rechargeable Li-air batteries, Li-S batteries, and Li metal batteries which utilize intercalation compounds as cathodes. In this work, various factors that affect the morphology and Coulombic efficiency of Li anodes are analyzed. The authors also present the technologies utilized to characterize the morphology of Li deposition and the results obtained by modeling of Li dendrite growth. Finally, recent developments, especially the new approaches that enable safe and efficient operation of Li metal anodes at high current densities are reviewed. The urgent need and perspectives in this field are also discussed. The fundamental understanding and approaches presented in this work will be critical for the applicationof Li metal anodes. The general principles and approaches can also be used in other metal electrodes and general electrochemical deposition of metal films.
