Book excerpt: Current Issues in Computer Simulation is a collection of papers dealing with computer simulation languages, statistical aspects of simulation, linkage with optimization and analytical models, as well as theory and application of simulation methodology. Some papers explain the General Purpose Simulation System (GPSS), a programming package incorporating a language to simulate discrete systems; and the SIMSCRIPT, a general-purpose simulation language using English commands, for example, FORTRAN. Another simulation language is the General Activity Simulation Program (GASP), providing for an organizational structure to build models to simulate the dynamic performance of systems on a digital computer. Other papers discuss simulation models of real systems, including corporate simulation models, multistage consumer choice process, determination of maximum occupancy for hospital facilities, and the juvenile court system. Many computer simulations are statistical sampling experiments performed on a model of the system under investigation. Other papers discuss some of the variables involved in the statistical design and analysis of simulation experiments such as variance reduction techniques, generation of random variates, and experimental layout. For example, one application simulates inventory systems when many items are stocked in various locations. The collection is suitable for programmers, computer engineers, businessmen, hospital administrators, schools officials, and depositories of huge volumes of information or data.

SecTech and DRBC bring together researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of security and disaster recovery methodologies, including their links to c- putational sciences, mathematics and information technology. In total, 1,630 papers were submitted to FGIT 2010 from 30 countries, which - cludes 250 papers submitted to SecTech/DRBC 2010. The submitted papers went through a rigorous reviewing process: 395 of the 1,630 papers were accepted for FGIT 2010, while 57 papers were accepted for SecTech/DRBC 2010. Of the 250 papers 10 were selected for the special FGIT 2010 volume published by Springer in the LNCS series. 34 papers are published in this volume, and 13 papers were wi- drawn due to technical reasons. Book excerpt: The most common document formalisation for text classi?cation is the vector space model founded on the bag of words/phrases representation. The main advantage of the vector space model is that it can readily be employed by classi?cation - gorithms. However, the bag of words/phrases representation is suited to capturing only word/phrase frequency; structural and semantic information is ignored. It has been established that structural information plays an important role in classi?cation accuracy [14]. An alternative to the bag of words/phrases representation is a graph based rep- sentation, which intuitively possesses much more expressive power. However, this representation introduces an additional level of complexity in that the calculation of the similarity between two graphs is signi?cantly more computationally expensive than between two vectors (see for example [16]). Some work (see for example [12]) has been done on hybrid representations to capture both structural elements (- ing the graph model) and signi?cant features using the vector model. However the computational resources required to process this hybrid model are still extensive.
