Book Annual Report of the Saint Paul Minnesota Chamber of Commerce for the Year Ending Dec 31 1886 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Annual Report of the Saint Paul Minnesota Chamber of Commerce for the Year Ending Dec 31 1886 Classic Reprint written by Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-13 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Annual Report of the Saint Paul (Minnesota) Chamber of Commerce for the Year Ending Dec. 31, 1886 A careful estimate by the Secretaries of the Associations In St. Paul places the number of houses built by loans in their Associations at 831 per annum. The figures have been taken from the books of a large number of the Associations, and the Opinion is that the number is not overstated, and the cash receipts justify the above estimates. The amount paid monthly by the borrowers who build these houses seldom exceeds the rents which are paid for similar houses. Often it is less - according to the means of the borrower independent of the loan. It becomes thus not so much a question of interest (more or less) but whether a man will throw away what he pays for ten years for rent, while his landlord owns the house, or whether he will pay it into his own pocket at the same time, and own the house himself. The public benefit to Cities and States resulting from the building features of these Associations is seen and felt in the permanency of the population owning their own homes, who are attached to the soil and interested in low taxes and good government, and opposed to all socialistic and disorganizing schemes Philadelphia has 600 Building Associations, while New York has scarcely any. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report of the City Comptroller of the City of St. Paul: For the Fiscal Year Ending December 31, A. D., 1902 To the Honorable the Mayor and the Common Gounod of the City of St. Paul, Gentlemen: In conformity with section 9, chapter 16, title 3, of the charter of the City of St. Paul, the annual report of this department for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 1902, is herewith submitted for your con sideration. In the past year the tax collections were such as to enable this department to credit the various funds with nearly the full amount of the budget allowance, and it is with pleasure we note that we close this year with but very few unpaid bills on hand. During the year the bonded indebtedness of the city has been reduced by In addition to this, the amount in the budget of 1902 that represents permanent improve ments is an amount equal to four mills on the dollar of the assessed valuation. The rapid growth of our city demands these improve ments, and, being prohibited from issuing bonds, there is no alternative but to place these amounts in the tax levy. It is to be hoped that the Legislature will take such action as will relieve our tax payers of this burden and allow the city to issue bonds for permanent improvements. The books in all the city departments are well kept and correspond with those kept in this omoe. A general resume of the transactions of the different departments and the various financial statements is presented at the head of this report with the detailed compilation of all the city warrants issued following below. I have the honor to be, Respectfully yours, louis betz, City, Comptroller. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
