Download or read book Program Notes for Graduate Recital written by Hsiao-Hsien Shen and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This recital program was selected based on composers who have influenced me over many years. I would like to introduce and perform for the audience works by those composers I have admired since I was very young, and who have influenced me throughout my musical development, and who have made me the pianist I am today. My program includes compositions from the Baroque era to the present day, and includes both original works and arrangements. In the program notes, I use composers' notes, music history, an analysis of the structure of the pieces, and my point of view as a performer/pianist. I wish to help people have more of an understanding of these works by giving some background on the composers and how the pieces were written.

Book A Graduate Conducting Recital

Download or read book A Graduate Conducting Recital written by Blake Garcia and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The program for my Master of Music conducting recital opened with Mozart's masterfully crafted and remarkably dramatic Serenade No. 12 in C minor. It was originally written for the standard Classical wind octet (harmonie) featuring pairs of oboes, clarinets, horns, and bassoons. Following this chamber work was Ernst Toch's 1926 composition, Spiel für Blasorchester. This monumental work aided in the progression and output of original compositions written for wind band/ensembles. It also utilizes a smaller, one-on-a-part instrumentation. The program also featured works by contemporary composers, Eric Whitacre and Fisher Tull. Lux Aurumque, adapted for modern concert band, is based on one of Whitacre's most popular compositions and features lush textures that create a wide palette of instrumental and harmonic colors. Fisher Tulls' Sketches on a Tudor Psalm features a set of continuous variations based on settings of the Second Psalm by Thomas Tallis. The program concludes with Pas Redoublé, a quickstep concert march composed by Camille Saint-Saëns. Reminiscent of the gallops by Offenbach, this band transcription by Arthur Frackenpohl has become a standard of the literature for concert band. The recital took place in the University Auditorium at the University of Florida main campus in Gainesville, Florida, and featured the University of Florida Wind Symphony.
