Book High Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers

Download or read book High Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers written by A.L. Kovarskii and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-02-03 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers is devoted to covering all areas of high-pressure polymer materials science. Topics addressed include the synthesis of polymers, changes in reactivity, structural transformations, molecular dynamics, relaxation processes, deformational properties, chemical modification, and the effect of shock waves and shear stresses. The authors' contributions reflect over 60 years of Soviet study in the field of physico-chemistry conducted at the major former Soviet Institutes of Chemical Physics, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry. Fundamental topics such as compressibility of polymers, polymerization under pressure, viscoelastic/deformational properties, and polymer modification are discussed with an eye toward materials development for improving physical models and methods of calculating the changing parameters of materials under pressure. The book is a valuable reference to data on mechanisms of physical and chemical processes, in addition to new experimental data for improving physical models and methods of calculating changes in material characteristics under compression loads. High-Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers will be an important reference for graduate students and practicing professionals in polymer chemistry and polymeric materials.

Book Crystallization and Melting of Polyethylene Under Pressure

Download or read book Crystallization and Melting of Polyethylene Under Pressure written by Theodore Davidson and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The crystallization conditions which lead to extended-chain polyethylene under elevated pressure were elucidated further. The dependence of polyethylene density on crystallization pressure on slow cooling was extended up to 6980 bars. No further improvement of crystal perfection or extension of polymer chains were observed. At 5000 bars the temperature of crystallization was varied between 170 to 270C. Temperatures between 195 and 225C were found suitable for crystallization of extended chain polyethylene. A time sequence at 200C and 5000 bar revealed some insight in the formation of extended chain polyethylene. It is thought to involve a two step process of nucleation of folded chain lamellae, followed by solid state chain extension. High pressure differential thermal analysis apparatus has been developed for measurement up to 3700 bar. Folded as well as extended chain crystals of polyethylene were analyzed. Only the extended chain crystals show an initial increase in melting point in accord with the Clausius Clapeyron equation. (Author).

Download or read book Polymer Physics written by U.W. Gedde and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of my teaching efforts during the last ten years at the Royal Institute of Technology. The purpose is to present the subject of polymer physics for undergraduate and graduate students, to focus the fundamental aspects of the subject and to show the link between experiments and theory. The intention is not to present a compilation of the currently available literature on the subject. Very few reference citations have thus been made. Each chapter has essentially the same structure: starling with an introduction, continuing with the actual subject, summarizing the chapter in 30D-500 words, and finally presenting problems and a list of relevant references for the reader. The solutions to the problems presented in Chapters 1-12 are given in Chapter 13. The theme of the book is essentially polymer science, with the exclusion of that part dealing directly with chemical reactions. The fundamentals in polymer science, including some basic polymer chemistry, are presented as an introduction in the first chapter. The next eight chapters deal with different phenomena (processes) and states of polymers. The last three chapters were written with the intention of making the reader think practically about polymer physics. How can a certain type of problem be solved? What kinds of experiment should be conducted? This book would never have been written without the help of my friend and adviser, Dr Anthony Bristow, who has spent many hours reading through the manuscript. criticizing the content.

Book High Pressure Chemistry and Biochemistry

Download or read book High Pressure Chemistry and Biochemistry written by R. van Eldik and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was the objective of the ASI on "Advances in High Pressure Studies of Chemical and Biochemical Systems" to present the current status of such studies and to emphasize the advances achieved during the nine years since the previous ASI on "High Pressure Chemistry". These advances are partly due to the improved instrumentation enabling static and dynamic measurements at pressures several orders of magnitude higher than before, and partly due to the more general availability of high pressure equipment. This has led to a remarkable development in various areas of physics and chemistry, and especially in biochemistry. Throughout the presentation of this Advanced Study Institute the emphasis fell on the teaching character of such a summer school, and the contributions in this volume are of such a nature. Following a general introduction to modern high pressure research, a series of chapters on theoretical and experimental studies of gases, fluids and solids at high temperatures and pressures are presented with special emphasis on the physical aspects involved. Instrumentation used in such studies, viz. shock compression, NMR spectroscopy, laser scattering, x-ray and neutron scattering, and vibrational spectroscopy are treated in detail. The subsequent chapters are devoted to the application of high pressure techniques in the broad areas of organic, inorganic and biochemistry_ The formal lectures were supplemented by 29 contributed papers, for which a list of titles is included.
