Book Properties and Applications of Silicon Carbide

Download or read book Properties and Applications of Silicon Carbide written by Rosario Gerhardt and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-04-04 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we explore an eclectic mix of articles that highlight some new potential applications of SiC and different ways to achieve specific properties. Some articles describe well-established processing methods, while others highlight phase equilibria or machining methods. A resurgence of interest in the structural arena is evident, while new ways to utilize the interesting electromagnetic properties of SiC continue to increase.

Book Acoustic Electromagnetic Neutron Emissions from Fracture and Earthquakes

Download or read book Acoustic Electromagnetic Neutron Emissions from Fracture and Earthquakes written by Alberto Carpinteri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-30 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the relevant consequences of recently discovered and interdisciplinary phenomena, triggered by local mechanical instabilities. In particular, it looks at emissions from nano-scale mechanical instabilities such as fracture, turbulence, buckling and cavitation, focussing on vibrations at the TeraHertz frequency and Piezonuclear reactions. Future applications for this work could include earthquake precursors, climate change, energy production and cellular biology. A series of fracture experiments on natural rocks demonstrates that the TeraHertz vibrations are able to induce fission reactions on medium weight elements accompanied by neutron emissions. The same phenomenon appears to have occurred in several different situations, particularly in the chemical evolution of the Earth and Solar System, through seismicity (rocky planets) and storms (gaseous planets). As the authors explore, these phenomena can also explain puzzles related to the history of our planet, like the ocean formation or the primordial carbon pollution, as well as scientific mysteries, like the so-called “cold nuclear fusion” or the correct radio-carbon dating of organic materials, such as the Turin Shroud. In biology, Piezonuclear reactions could explain the mechanism that governs the so-called "sodium-potassium pump" and more in general, the metabolic processes. Scientists engaged in seismology, geophysics, geochemistry, climatology, planetology, condensed matter physics and b iology, as well as those involved in theoretical and applied mechanics, will all appreciate the innovative work presented here in a holistic way.

Book Dynamics of Solids and Liquids by Neutron Scattering

Download or read book Dynamics of Solids and Liquids by Neutron Scattering written by Robert Comès and published by Springer. This book was released on 1977 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inelastic neutron scattering is a well established and important technique for studying the dynamical properties of condensed matter at the atomic level. Often, as is the case of experiments designed to study motions of hydrogen atoms, or magnetic excitations, it may yield information obtainable in no other way. Our aim in assembling this book is to produce an overview of some research topics which have come to the fore recently with the development of high neutron fluxes and high performance inelastic scattering spectrometers. The topics dis cussed here are, by and large, developing rapidly and have not reached the stage at which definitive accounts are always possible. Authors have not therefore attempted to make an extensive review of their topic, and the papers quoted in the text are, in general, those which are seen as having been important in its develop ment (they date, roughly, from the 1971 IAEA conference on neutron scattering held in Grenoble). Basic phenomena are illustrated for the most part by the discussion of one, or two, typical examples. The authors hope that the book will be useful to researchers who are not yet fully aware of the diverse range of problems to which the technique can be applied, and to students beginning research work. For this reason, the first chapter by S. w.
