Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The angular distributions and the differential branching fraction of the decay B0→K*(892)0[mu]+[mu]- are studied using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.5 fb-1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in pp collisions at √s = 8 TeV. Additionally, from 1430 signal decays, the forward-backward asymmetry of the muons, the K*(892)0 longitudinal polarization fraction, and the differential branching fraction are determined as a function of the dimuon invariant mass squared. Our measurements are among the most precise to date and are in good agreement with standard model predictions.

Book excerpt: With a sample of about 227 million B[bar B] pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring the authors perform a full angular analysis of the decay B[sup 0] --> [phi]K*[sup 0](892). They measure the branching fraction to be (9.2 [+-] 0.9 [+-] 0.5) x 10[sup 06] and determine the fractions of longitudinal and parity-odd transverse contributions as f[sub L] = 0.52 [+-] 0.05 [+-] 0.02 and F[sub [perpendicular]] = 0.22 [+-] 0.05 [+-] 0.02, respectively. The phases of the parity-even and parity-odd transverse amplitudes relative to the longitudinal amplitude are found to be [phi][sub [parallel]] = 2.34[sub -0.20][sup +0.23] [+-] 0.05 rad and [phi][sub [perpendicular]] = 2.47 [+-] 0.25 [+-] 0.05 rad, respectively. The authors measure five CP asymmetries which provide important limits on CP violation originating from new physics. They also observe the decay B[sup 0] --> [phi]K*[sup 0](1430).

Book Measurements of Branching Fractions Rate Asymmetries and Angular Distributions in the Rare Decays B Kl l and B K l L

This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present measurements of the flavor-changing neutral current decays B {yields} K{ell}{sup +}{ell}{sup -} and B {yields} K*{ell}{sup +}{ell}{sup -}, where {ell}{sup +}{ell}{sup -} is either an e{sup +}e{sup -} or {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -} pair. The data sample comprises 229 x 10{sup 6} {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} storage ring. Flavor-changing neutral current decays are highly suppressed in the Standard Model and their predicted properties could be significantly modified by new physics at the electroweak scale. We measure the branching fractions {Beta}(B {yields} K{ell}{sup +}{ell}{sup -}) = (0.34 {+-} 0.07 {+-} 0.02) x 10{sup -6}, {Beta}(B {yields} K*{ell}{sup +}{ell}{sup -}) = (0.78{sub -0.17}{sup +0.19} {+-} 0.11) x 10{sup -6}, the direct CP asymmetries of these decays, and the relative abundances of decays to electrons and muons. For two regions in {ell}{sup +}{ell}{sup -} mass, above and below m{sub J/{psi}}, we measure partial branching fractions and the forward-backward angular asymmetry of the lepton pair. In these same regions we also measure the K* longitudinal polarization in B {yields} K*{ell}{sup +}{ell}{sup -} decays. Upper limits are obtained for the lepton flavor-violating decays B {yields} Ke{mu} and B {yields} K*e{mu}. All measurements are consistent with Standard Model expectations.

This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present measurements of the decays B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup (*)+] D*[sup -], using data recorded by the BABAR detector in 1999 and 2000, consisting of 20.8 fb[sup -1]. The analysis is conducted with a partial reconstruction technique, in which only the D[sub s][sup (*)+] and the soft pion from the D*[sup -] decay are reconstructed. From the observed rates, we measure the branching fractions[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -])= (1.03[+-] 0.14[+-] 0.13[+-] 0.26)% and[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -])= (1.97[+-] 0.15[+-] 0.30[+-] 0.49)%, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is the error due to the D[sub s][sup+][yields][phi][pi][sup+] branching fraction uncertainty. From the[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+] D*[sup -]) angular distributions, we measure the fraction of longitudinal polarization[Lambda][sub L]/[Lambda]= (51.9[+-] 5.0[+-] 2.8)%, which is consistent with the theoretical prediction, based on factorization. These results are preliminary.

Book excerpt: We study the decays B[sup +] [yields] [eta][sub c]K[sup +] and B[sup 0] [yields] [eta][sub c]K[sup 0], where the [eta][sub c] is reconstructed in the K[sub S][sup 0] K[sup [+-]] [pi][sup [-+]] and K[sup +]K[sup -] [pi][sup 0] decay modes. Results are based on a sample of 86 million B[bar B] pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC e[sup +]e[sup -] B Factory. We measure the branching fractions [Beta](B[sup +] [yields] [eta][sub c]K[sup +]) = (1.34 [+-] 0.09 [+-] 0.13 [+-] 0.41) x 10[sup -3] and [Beta](B[sup 0] [yields] [eta][sub c]K[sup 0]) = (1.18 [+-] 0.16 [+-] 0.13 [+-] 0.37) x 10[sup -3], where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third reflects the [eta][sub c] branching fraction uncertainty. In addition, we search for B [yields] [eta][sub c]K events with [eta][sub c] [yields] 2(K[sup +]K[sup -]) and [eta][sub c] [yields] [phi][phi] and determine the [eta][sub c] decay branching fraction ratios [Beta]([eta][sub c] [yields] 2(K[sup +]K[sup -]))/[Beta]([eta][sub c] [yields] K[bar K][pi]) = (2.3 [+-] 0.7 [+-] 0.6) x 10[sup -2] and [Beta]([eta][sub c] [yields] [phi][phi])/[Beta]([eta][sub c] [yields] K[bar K][pi]) = (5.5 [+-] 1.4 [+-] 0.5) x 10[sup -2].

Book Measurement of the Branching Fraction for B D0 K

Download or read book Measurement of the Branching Fraction for B D0 K written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a measurement of the branching fraction for the decay B[sup -] [yields] D[sup 0]K*[sup -] using a sample of approximately 86 million B[bar B] pairs collected by the BABAR detector from e[sup +]e[sup -] collisions near the [Upsilon](4S) resonance. The D[sup 0] is detected through its decays to K[sup -] [pi][sup +], K[sup -][pi][sup +][pi][sup 0] and K[sup -] [pi][sup +][pi][sup -][pi][sup +], and the K*[sup -] through its decay to K[sub S][sup 0] [pi][sup -]. They measure the branching fraction to be [Beta](B[sup -] [yields] D[sup 0]K*[sup -]) = (6.3 [+-] 0.7(stat.) [+-] 0.5(syst.)) x 10[sup -4].

Book Measurement of Neutral B Decay Branching Fractions to K sub S sup 0 pi sup pi sup Final States

Download or read book Measurement of Neutral B Decay Branching Fractions to K sub S sup 0 pi sup pi sup Final States written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The branching fractions for B[sup 0] --> K[sup 0][pi][sup +][pi][sup -], B[sup 0] --> K*[sup +][pi][sup -] and B[sup 0] --> D[sup -]( --> K[sub s][sup 0][pi][sup -])[pi][sup +] decaying to a K[sub s][sup 0][pi][sup +][pi][sup -] state have been measured and agree with previous measurements. The direct CP violating parameter A[sub K*[pi]] was measured for the decay B[sup 0] --> K*[sup +][pi][sup -] and is in agreement with the CLEO measurement, with no evidence of CP violation with the statistics used. Using larger datasets, one can extract amplitudes and relative phases of the resonant contributions to the Dalitz plot, with the possibility to observe new B-meson decays.

This book was released on 2011 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this thesis is threefold: Firstly, new measurements of both the exclusive and semi-inclusive partial decay widths of $B^{0}_{s} \to D^{(*)+}_{s}D^{(*)-}_{s}$ meson decays are presented. Secondly, the feasibility of extracting the unknown polarization components in $B^{0}_{s} \to D^{(*)+}_{s}D^{(*)-}_{s}$ by partial reconstruction of this pseudo-scalar to vector-vector decay in a Monte Carlo driven analysis scheme is studied. Finally, based on the suggestions contributed by the theory community this study discusses how a measurement of the branching fraction of semi-inclusive decays $B^{0}_{s} \to D^{(*)+}_{s}D^{(*)-}_{s}$ can contribute to gain insight about the relative decay width di erence in the B$0\atop{s}$--B$0\atop{s}$ meson system.
