Book Anglo American Cars

Download or read book Anglo American Cars written by Norman Mort and published by Veloce Publishing. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers British cars powered by American engines and American cars fitted with British power plants, all built from the 1930s to 1970s. Many of the American-powered British makes offered for sale were often built with everything from trials and rallies to road racing in mind. For enthusiasts, the American V8 in a British chassis provided fast, reliable touring at a fraction of the cost. In contrast, the American cars fitted with British power plants were often designed with economy in mind. Brochures, period literature, road test info of the day, factory press kits and over sixty color photos of restored examples provide detailed shots of the engines and styling that set these Anglo-American cars apart. Decade by decade information allows for direct comparison.

Book American Cars in Prewar England

Download or read book American Cars in Prewar England written by Bryan Goodman and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2004-01-05 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After World War I, there was a great hunger for cars in Britain. Many servicemen had learned to drive and had money from their demobilization grants to spend, but British factories were not immediately able to get back into car production so they looked to America for automobiles. In 1919, two out of every five cars on British roads were Fords built in England, and in 1925, General Motors took over British manufacturer Vauxhall. Hudson also became a prolific assembler during this time and Chrysler built an assembly plant in Kew, west of London. This book features numerous photographs and commentary on many makes of American cars that could be seen on British roads before the beginning of World War II. Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Durant, Duryea, Essex, Ford, Hudson, Jewett, La Salle, Oldsmobile, Overland, Packard, Plymouth, Saxon, Stanley, Studebaker, Stutz and White are among the manufacturers whose cars are included. The author provides a concise description of each automobile he covers, and points out some interesting features and technical details (horsepower and engine size, for example).

Book excerpt: Many argue that the Ford GT40 is the classic racing car of its era, conceived to rewrite the rulebook at LeMans by taking on -- and beating -- the hitherto all-dominant Ferraris. In this expanded edition, the author recalls the GT40's six epic seasons of racing and the legacy that it left on international motorsports. All-new contemporary color photography is complemented by painstakingly researched GT40 documentation, including: -- Ownership and identification records for each individual car -- A race record listing the fate of all GT40s entered in major events -- Technical specifications for the six main variants of the GT40 theme -- A chronicle of GT40s built and kitted out to be driven on the road -- models which are today among the most valuable of exotic sports cars The GT40 represents a significant chapter in what many race fans consider the golden age of postwar auto racing. This is the GT40's story of fierce competition, dedication, tragedy, and, ultimately, of complete and repeated success.

Book The All British Marendaz Special

Download or read book The All British Marendaz Special written by Graham Skillen and published by Fonthill Media. This book was released on 2018-11-10 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ++ Includes 132 black-and-white and colour photographs ++ This is the story of Captain Marendaz, a pilot in the RFC in the Great War and his life as a manufacturer of cars in the 1920s and 1930s when he competed extensively at Brooklands and elsewhere, before moving on to designing and building aircraft. He was closely associated with Stirling Moss's parents and Kaye Don, being involved in trialling and record-breaking with his own cars and the American Graham-Paige. His passage through life was not smooth, being frequently coloured by disputes, ending up with him being arrested under the notorious Category 18B regulations in 1940, causing him to move to South Africa after the war, where trouble followed him before his return to England in 1972. The book also contains a considerable number of first-hand accounts, by people who worked for Captain Marendaz, of life in a small car and aircraft factory before the war, giving a revealing insight into the social history of the period. His sports cars are attractive with good lines, a point brought out in the many illustrations taken in period and more recently of survivors. His correspondence with the author and others provides an insight into his controversial life.
