Book Angewandte Mathematik Body and Soul

Download or read book Angewandte Mathematik Body and Soul written by Kenneth Eriksson and published by Springer-Verlag. This book was released on 2010-04-30 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. "[......] Oh, by the way, I suggest immediate purchase of all three volumes!" The Mathematical Association of America Online, 7.7.04

Book The Math of Body Soul and the Universe

Download or read book The Math of Body Soul and the Universe written by Norbert Schwarzer and published by . This book was released on 2022-12-27 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great German mathematician David Hilbert's creation, de facto, was--no, is--a theory of everything or world formula, even though he himself had little chance of fully realizing this. Even in physics, where we can now show that Hilbert's fundamental equation covers both great theories, General Theory of Relativity and Quantum Theory, the time was not ripe for such a discovery, simply because the mathematical apparatus of Quantum Theory was not fully developed then. While Hilbert brought out his great work in 1915 and knew about the Einstein field equations at the time, the basic quantum equations such as the Schrödinger, Klein-Gordon, and Dirac equations would not follow before the second half of the 1920s. In order to find the mathematical and physical fundament for the description of the body, the soul, and the whole universe, which is to say a "theory of everything," we think that we require "quantum gravity." That such a theory--in principle--already exists and was derived by Hilbert and elaborated in the author's previous work, The World Formula: A Late Recognition of David Hilbert's Stroke of Genius. This book digs deeper and shows not only that quantum gravity is more than just a physical theory--describing physical aspects--but also that, in fact, it covers "it all."

Book Computational Turbulent Incompressible Flow

Download or read book Computational Turbulent Incompressible Flow written by Johan Hoffman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-01-05 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Volume 4 of the book series of the Body and Soul mathematics education reform program. It presents a unified new approach to computational simulation of turbulent flow starting from the general basis of calculus and linear algebra of Vol 1-3. The book puts the Body and Soul computational finite element methodology in the form of General Galerkin (G2) up against the challenge of computing turbulent solutions of the inviscid Euler equations and the Navier-Stokes equations with small viscosity. This is an outstanding textbook presenting plenty of new material with an excellent pedagogical approach.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ranging from math to literature to philosophy, Uncountable explains how numbers triumphed as the basis of knowledge—and compromise our sense of humanity. Our knowledge of mathematics has structured much of what we think we know about ourselves as individuals and communities, shaping our psychologies, sociologies, and economies. In pursuit of a more predictable and more controllable cosmos, we have extended mathematical insights and methods to more and more aspects of the world. Today those powers are greater than ever, as computation is applied to virtually every aspect of human activity. Yet, in the process, are we losing sight of the human? When we apply mathematics so broadly, what do we gain and what do we lose, and at what risk to humanity? These are the questions that David and Ricardo L. Nirenberg ask in Uncountable, a provocative account of how numerical relations became the cornerstone of human claims to knowledge, truth, and certainty. There is a limit to these number-based claims, they argue, which they set out to explore. The Nirenbergs, father and son, bring together their backgrounds in math, history, literature, religion, and philosophy, interweaving scientific experiments with readings of poems, setting crises in mathematics alongside world wars, and putting medieval Muslim and Buddhist philosophers in conversation with Einstein, Schrödinger, and other giants of modern physics. The result is a powerful lesson in what counts as knowledge and its deepest implications for how we live our lives.

Book Reading Kant s Lectures

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important collection of more than twenty original essays by prominent Kant scholars covers the multiple aspects of Kant’s teaching in relation to his published works. With the Academy edition’s continuing publication of Kant’s lectures, the role of his lecturing activity has been drawing more and more deserved attention. Several of Kant’s lectures on metaphysics, logic, ethics, anthropology, theology, and pedagogy have been translated into English, and important studies have appeared in many languages. But why study the lectures? When they are read in light of Kant’s published writings, the lectures offer a new perspective of Kant’s philosophical development, clarify points in the published texts, consider topics there unexamined, and depict the intellectual background in richer detail. And the lectures are often more accessible to readers than the published works. This book discusses all areas of Kant's lecturing activity. Some essays even analyze in detail the content of Kant's courses and the role of textbooks written by key authors such as Baumgarten, helping us understand Kant’s thought in its intellectual and historical contexts. Book excerpt: This biography illuminates the life of Ennio De Giorgi, a mathematical genius in parallel with John Nash, the Nobel Prize Winner and protagonist of A Beautiful Mind. Beginning with his childhood and early years of research, into his solution of the 19th problem of Hilbert and his professorship, this book pushes beyond De Giorgi’s rich contributions to the mathematics community, to present his work in human rights, including involvement in the fight for Leonid Plyushch’s freedom and the defense of dissident Uruguayan mathematician José Luis Massera. Considered by many to be the greatest Italian analyst of the twentieth century, De Giorgi is described in this volume in full through documents and direct interviews with friends, family, colleagues, and former students.
