Download or read book Females written by Andrea Long Chu and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of today’s most original thinkers on gender offers a provocative take on the current feminist movement, exploring “desire as the force shaping our identifies, the paradoxes of liberation politics, and her own gender transition” (Bookforum). “[Females] is always smart, sometimes sincere, and unpredictable about when it will pinch your arm or clutch its nails around your heart.” —Vice Everyone is female, and everyone hates it. Females is Andrea Long Chu’s genre-defying investigation into sex and lies, desperate artists and reckless politics, the smothering embrace of gender and the punishing force of desire. Drawing inspiration from a forgotten play by Valerie Solanas—the woman who wrote the SCUM Manifesto and shot Andy Warhol—Chu aims her searing wit and surgical intuition at targets ranging from performance art to psychoanalysis, incels to porn. She even has a few barbs reserved for feminists like herself. Each step of the way, she defends the indefensible claim that femaleness is less a biological state and more a fatal existential condition that afflicts the entire human race—men, women, and everyone else. Or maybe she’s just projecting. A thrilling new voice who has been credited with launching the “second wave” of trans studies, Chu shows readers how to write for your life, baring her innermost self with a morbid sense of humor and a mordant kind of hope.

Download or read book Exposing Themselves written by Coralie E. Judah and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born and raised in the Caribbean in the '50s and '60s, one has a certain perception of those in authority as being "good, decent law-abiding intellectuals." So I was in for a shock when I had occasion to represent myself as a plaintiff in the Superior Court of Justice in Ontario, Canada. I was in for an even greater shock when I filed a criminal report about the illegal activities indulged in by lawyers, judges, and also by a visit from the police, who not only bullied me, but threatened to have me take a test for mental health issues if I contacted them again. What was most unbelievable was what took place at landlord and tenant board hearings: the blatant lies told not only by a judge at the board, but a paralegal and her clients whom she orchestrated and/or facilitated in breaking the law to effect an illegal eviction. What was even more disturbing was that those judges who accommodated the obvious lies told, broke Section 139(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada, to accommodate the paralegal as she not only attempted to, but was successful in obstructing, perverting and/or defeating justice. The actions of the authorities make one wonder if they are morally, intellectually and spiritually bankrupt. Hence the title of my next book, Are We Being Prepared for Heaven, or for Hell? Coralie E. Judah was born on a small island in the British Virgin Islands, and was raised on another small island, Montserrat. She now resides in Ottawa, Canada. Download or read book The Bogus Buzz written by Glen Keough and published by AbbottPress. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flashback to the 1960s and 1970s and faster than you can say In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, accompany Glen Keough as he is drilled by Dominican nuns, enlightened by a hippie father and loved by a grandmother who easily forgave his sins. In this coming of age memoir, Keough reminisces on a youth spent in Southern California with a band of boys who when freed from the constraints of Catholicism, partook in the forbidden fruits of the era. A time to trade marbles for marijuana and Johnny Western for Led Zeppelin. Such transactions come with a price as his best friend went on an acid trip he never returned from mentally. The author broods on a lost of innocence and how a gracious God could take away a sister so young with cancer. The Bogus Buzz shares a sensitive maturation process similar to the 1986 movie Stand By Me. It reflects on the coping mechanisms constructed to weather divorce, insecurity and the come hither look of the fish netted blonde two desks down.
